Swallow difficulties

My 72 year old wife has PD. After a video swallow test she was told that the muscles in her throat have weakened. She was also told that this is progressive and that it was irreversible. She was given some exercises to try and help her. Has anyone been told they suffer from this? And how fast does it progress?

I started noticing my trouble swallowing several years ago when eating an apple while hiking and almost choking on it. I have had a slow progression - my voice is softer, and everything seems to get stuck in my throat, so I do not ever eat or take pills without a liquid handy.

My wife is going through the same things. She always has a drink near by and I never leave the house when she's eating.

Please do your research as I am a recovered Lyme patient I can suggest that treatment of liquid Cats Claw can kill those type of Bacteria that are Stealth to normal pathology but are causing great sickness in our society . If you are able please get some accredited blood tests done Igenex in USA or similar labs in Germany as I do not know your location cheers

Please do your research as from my personal experience 5 drs told me I had an autoimmune disease and I was suffering many symptoms and my speach was becoming much worse and swallowing was at times uncomfortable ,after much research I found a Dr that not only treated Lyme but he also had it himself and Bingo I was treated for what I had and not the symptoms it caused cheers . PS it took a good 14 months of treatment and about 4 years overall to fully recover ,so please make sure you research and find out if your wife has an underlying cause

It's important to chew food thoroughly and swallow slowly ( take your time ) and have a drink nearby always. I have been diagnosed with otolaryngeal dysphagia along with PD. I've had several episodes of choking. I take Sinemet. I am careful of what foods I choose to eat, and do exercises to help my muscles.

If you Google or YouTube 'swallowing exercises', you will find some help there. To avoid choking, a teaspoon should be used for eating. Small, level, teaspoonsful should be taken. Also, see if you can find a speech therapist online. One suggested singing, to exercise tongue and throat muscles, which should help.
