This paper proposes too much niacin causes PD as countries with pellagra (deficiency in niacin) have lower incidence of PD. But it is from 2005. Does anyone know if this has been disproved?

He assumes a good part of his result at the very outset:

" Any causal substance for Parkinson’s disease will therefore be, not a special compound, but a common one, such as a food nutrient."

None of the evidence he cites actually supports his contention:

"Some findings have indicated that niacin is neuroprotective (2,3), whereas others have not supported it and niacin showed no clear relation with Parkinson’s disease (4–6). NADH has been reported to relieve some of the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, but it did not influence the tissue content of dopamine in vivo experiment (7). "

The remainder of the paper is speculative. There is nothing to disprove here - he has not made a good enough case to bother with.

Yes, it seems that there are probably other things diets from those countries have in common as well as niacin. No wheat for one!
