Help! Overwhelmed with where to start with suppliments.

Hi everyone

My husband was diagnosed with PD in February this year. He is 41. I’m trying to find out as much as I can about diet, exercise and supplements as I can to help him. He is taking sinemet 100/25 three times daily and was taking escitalopram sandoz 10mg before he was diagnosed so is currently still taking it. It is an anti depressant. I have changed his diet to increase fibre and omega 3. Removed dairy, red meat, vegetable oil and gluten and started cooking with coconut oil. He has stated an excercise program aiming to do 1 1/2 hrs a day. I’ve started giving him B vitamins, magnesium and Coenzyme Q10 and turmeric tablets. Noting more that the dose the bottle says. I have written a long list of suppliments people and the internet are suggesting but I am a bit overwhelmed! Every time I go to actually buy some I find more to research. Where should I start? Thanks!

Many people here and myself have tried many supplements and I'll save you the trial and error.

Thiamine HCL (vitamin B1) 4000mg per day. The most effective. Within 2 months you will see a dramatic improvement. Look it up, google search Thiamine parkinson's Dr Cosentini.

Isn’t taking that much Vitamin B1 hard on the liver and kidneys?

Is Parkinson's hard on one's life.

As a safe natural alternative to the treatment of Parkinsons symptoms you may also consider a mucuna pruriens whole powder formula, such as Zandopa zanduayurveda.com/products/... ; especially in the early stages of the disease may prove beneficial. The efficacy of Zandopa (HP-200) has been proved in a clinical trial ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/939... and has been used for many years for that purpose . You may reserve drugs for the later stages of the disease.

Exercise (treadmill, fast walking, aerobics, resistance exercise, tai-chi), preferably in a social environment or outdoors, is of paramount importance , well above any supplement or drug.

Turmeric tablets alone possibly won't do anything as the bioavailability is very low. If you target inflamation-oxidation you need to choose a biovable form of Curcumin such as liposomal, micellar etc. If one oil you have to use, it is the organic extra virgin olive oil which possesses anti-inflamatory and antioxidant properties healthline.com/nutrition/11... . For healthier gut you may add some probiotics, fermented foods, kefir or sheep yogurt.

It is also suggested to do a thorough blood examination for vitamins, minerals and aminoacids. PD patients may present low levels of Vitamin D, B6, Folate, B12, Zinc, magnesium, Glutahione. Correcting imbalances through supplementation or nutrition will lower homocysteine levels and bring your body balance back to fight back the disease.

Hi Kelly

I was 48 when Dxed last year. The disease was progressing and I was developing different symptoms. I went to Dr Costantini and he gave my life back to me. Now I am almost symptoms free.

IMHO; Contact Dr Costantini and if you can take your husband to Italy to see him. It’s worth it.

See the link below.

My husband has Parkinson since 2007 ... I've contacted Dr. Constantin and I have recommended 15 injections of vitamin B1 - 100mg twice a week - now he has 13 injections, but I do not see any improvements. Is there too little a dose?

Say you had been at Dr. Constantini, it was a great effort, but if it was worth seeing you directly, you could clinically evaluate and prescribe a treatment that puts you up then you give me courage and I'll try to get my husband to establish a correct treatment because this is the time with emails and videos and my husband's condition is a constant suffering that exhausts him. What was your state when you were at Dr. Constantini and how much time did you feel improvements and what Did they notice that? Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks for this info re Dr Costantini. We just happened to be going to Italy on holiday in June and I have made my hubby an appointment. His clinic is 1.5 hrs from Rome. I will just have to forfeit a days shopping 😉 but I am looking forward to it! I will keep this forum posted once we have seen him.

I am sure that you will be back from Italy (Viterbo) much happier than now.

A piece of advice: if you are going to Viterbo by train from Rome, you have to change the train once in Orte .Try to go to Viterbo a day before your appointment. Most of the time the second train has delay.

Hi my husband was diagnosed 4 years ago at the age of 48. He has recently started taking mecuna pruriens alongside his madopor and it has made. Huge difference. He is now supplementing his madopor and is down from 6 tablets a day to 3.

Be careful if his neuro prescribes repinerol - my husband is weening himself off it after almost losing everything - it is an incredibly dangerous drug.

So

I was on supplements for years....Never felt any better when on them. Didn't feel any different when off them.

Finally 4 out of 4 doctors said stop wasting my time & money: There is no long term research. And each dr talked about the placebo effect .

*** Reduce your stress ***

Eat sleep exercise : Everything in moderation

Enjoy the moment : Live in this moment

Be well

Thanks everyone for your advice. I will keep pushing forward and let you know how I go 😁 !

Before you start treatment with thiamin HCL Doc recommends you make a video of your husband to include his walking. See example videos on the Italian web site. As the months go by you can track or have a reference point for his improvement. If you go to Italy to see Costantini or you only go online you will be one step ahead. I cannot say today but in the past there has been no consultation fee for internet/email visit. After a year and with wonderful results I am still 'playing' with my dose level to discover the ideal dose.

Thanks RoyProp! Will do. I've found some tablets. They are not the same brand as yours. I couldn't get them delivered to Australia but they are HCL and 500mg. Starting at 1g in the morning and 1g and lunch to begin with. I am going to try and email Dr Costantini to check the right dose for his weight he is . I saw the email somewhere on here so I just need to find it. Going to get his Vit B and D levels tested. I'm still quite overwhelmed and feeling like I don't really know what I am doing but pushing forward.

in reply to Kellypeters

I prefer Vitacost brand easy to swallow capsules
