I was traveling by auto when I heard on the radio, reference releasing CBD/TCH tablets to the other states soon. I did a search and I think this info/link is correct.

To get the REAL CBD oils, you need a recommendation from a licensed practitioner and buy it at a dispensary. The stuff you can buy in health food stores is made from HEMP not one of over 400 varieties of marijuana.

It is one variety of hemp like popcorn and sweetcorn are both varieties of corn. CBD oil made from industrial hemp does not contain THC. It is the THC in medical marijuana that is helpful (very helpful IMHO) for PD.

Yes, it depends on the part of the hemp plant and the processing. CBD has no intoxicating properties. There was an online series entitled The Sacred Plant that went into those details. It's useful for so many major illnesses but I can't recall that Parkinson's was featured.

In New York State, Parkinson's is one of the disease states that medical marijuana can be recommended for. The level of THC is what needs to be titrated for each individual.

Thank you wifeofparky. I'm also a wife of a person who had Parkinson's. Sadly he passed away in January at age 80. The use of cannabis for medicinal purposes has only very recently been permitted here in South Africa. I wish I had known where to get it and how to use it to help him.

Please accept my condolences on your loss. My husband passed away 5 years ago but I now facilitate a Caregiver Support Group so I try to stay current with what is happening in the Parkinson Community

Would a PWP have to live in New York state to be eligible to get a prescription?

Since it is illegal to take across state lines you would need to live in the state where it is recommended and dispensed.

CBD is still considered a class 1 drug and by Federal law is illegal. If your state has "legalized" it, you need to see a licensed practitioner. In NY, a recommendation is written for the patient who then must go to a dispensary to buy it. It is Cash only and expensive.

I watched the whole series and they mentioned PD, but they didn’t go into any depth specific to PD. It was lumped together with all the autoimmune diseases. Still, in my opinion, it was worth watching.
