Hey friends ! Has anyone else experienced a tightness that starts in the middle of the back and spreads around to both sides of the rib cage?Somtimes it can start in my right hip area and spread up my back and shoulders. I have been taking Sinemet 25/100 thee times a day and weening off from Amantadine. so far I have had good luck with the Sinemet and hope that this isn’t an effect from it. Thanks for always being there for each other , we could all use some friendly advise once in a while🤗

I hope it isnt coronary in nature. Maybe have your heart checked out.

Thank you I will!

I have been experiencing this since just before I was diagnosed 5 years ago. It can get so bad that I can hardly breathe sometimes. Nothing relieves it other than lying down flat on the floor for about 15 to 30 minutes. Once I am up again I have to be very careful to avoid it happening again. It can happen multiple times a day.

Have a checkup with your doctor first.

I had similar problems that stemmed from a compressed spine, due to the back muscles loosing their ability to fully relax; Which in turn inhibits the discs in the spine being able to rejuvenate and do their job in cushioning and protecting the nerves from being squeezed; so the muscles cannot relax - The vicious circle that is quite common with PD; and if ignored develops into the need of surgery!

Massage based Physiotherapy. This will hopefully relax and ease away the tensions, followed by floor exercises to stretch and decompress the spine (with plenty of water on board for disc recuperation )

The floor exercises I do are described here sites.google.com/site/beaux...

Hope this helps

I have a very similar issue the pain can be so bad it can take your breath away. I just went to see a chiropractor she did some strong stretching of my legs while pushing on my back and it felt great however this morning I can barely walk. I’m going to continue to see her for a few more sessions and see what happens at $30 a pop copay I better see some results soon!

Just make sure Massage is included before and after to achieve full Relaxation throughout the body. For in my experience; any tension in any muscle will exasperate matters or move the problem to a different area.

Best wishes

Do you have any of the following?

chest pressure or tightness.back, jaw, or arm pain. fatigue. lightheadedness. dizziness. shortness of breath. abdominal pain.nausea?

I think chest pain always needs to be ruled out for the cardiovascular related issues.

Is your pain positional?

I have chest tightness, arm pain (always) no jaw pain no nausea or lightheadedness and no abdominal pain. It only happens after I eat dinner, and I am a very light eater so I never get that full bloated feeling. It is just so painfull and will last 15 to 30 minuets. I worked in the cardiac field and know all the symptoms and different rhythm abnormallys this doesn’t feel cardiac related but I will go to my GP just to be sure.

"It only happens after I eat dinner"

Have you damaged your diaphragm where the intestine passes through? I would certainly recommend a visit to your GP. I am not a doctor; It could even be an ulcer causing you some gripe and grief.

I experienced similar symptoms. I think, they can occur due to episodic contraction of chest wall muscles, most probably, a form of dystonia.

My episodes occurred when I was in bad mood due to some cause.

Good article:

attacks

About half of all heart attacks are mistaken for less serious problems and can increase your risk of dying from coronary artery disease.

Yes. It's brutal. I'm sorry to hear you suffer also. I take half 25/3 times a day. I go to a personal trainer to help with stretching alone as he specializes in Parkinson's. He feels, as does my neurologist that it's actually stiffening from the disease itself. The only thing that combats it for me (as it actually hurts to roll over in bed at night) is constantly stretching. Perhaps others feel it's sinemet related and it might be but unfortunately sometimes it is hard to distinguish between what's the disease and what's the medication. Keep stretching is the best advice as my trainer has said it manifests itself there but it's actually my QL which starts in my hips. If you sit too much try to move a little more. Once one area gets stiff and out of alignment they all connect. I think us parkies are very susceptible. I've been on sinemet 2 years now and this particular stiffness was not always there. Good luck!

Thank you Jenzo . I am almost afraid to eat for fear that I will have another attack, I will try to stretch more often , do you stretch side to side or front to back? I Can’t raise my arms over my head do to shoulder/neck issues.

Placing hands on your waist lean as far as you can to each side. Then lean slightly forward while still off to the side. It will stretch your entire side and mid back. Hold it for a few seconds. A couple repetitions are enough. If your balance is not good hold onto something. Any movement is good for us (within our limitations). Place your hands on your waist and put your feet together and move circles with your upper body in a clockwise motion. This is helpful and not overly stressful on the body. If you are able to see a physical therapist it would be best. All the best!
