I need help deciding which brand of supplements are best: **** CoQ10 and NAC

I have read so many posts and articles on these 2 supplements that I think and hope I could benefit from them. But when i go on Amazon or gooogle there are so many choices.

I have read that PWP benefit from 1200 mg of CoQ10 but i dont see any near that amount. i think organic would be the way to go.

NAC- I have read we need 600mg.

I had a full blood analysis done this summer and it say i was deficient in CoQ10 and all the B vit.

If anyne has advice on a brand, i would be very grateful.

Subscription site ConsumerLabs tested 36 different versions of CoQ10 and the only one that failed was from Doctor's Best - it had only 77mg versus the 100 mg claimed. consumerlab.com/reviews/CoQ...

They tested 13 versions of NAC all of which passed.

They test for accurate potency and also time to disperse.

Thank, unfortunately currently not a member of consumer labs so I cannot access the information

The point is that almost all supplements have what they say they have, If you stick with major brands you should be ok. If you want me to check a specific name I can do so.

No, I am ok

Thank you Park-bear.

Moparkie, I do not know about the brands, but if you have a deficiency in B vitamin, a supplementation is a must. You could get spectacular results.

Xenos, my dr. did suggest i take a B complex. however i am afraid to over dose as i changed my multi vit.

my current multi has:

B1 45mg

B2 40mg

B6 35Mg

B12 225 MCG

SHOuld i ADD a B complex with:

B1 50

B2 50mg

B6 50 mg

B12 500mcg

thank you. I appreciate any advice.

It's good, but if you are taking a carbidopa/levodopa medication you need to take this 2 hours apart or else the B6 will inactivate the medication.

Moparkie715,

B vitamins are water soluble and excess are expelled every day so I bundle up standard sized doses together (as separate pills) to make a mega B-multivitamin. The amount of each I am taking (at lunch) is:

100 mg niacin/B3, 500 mg niacinamide/nicotinamideB3,

100 mg thiamine/B1, 100 mg riboflavin/B2, 5 mg methylcobalamin/B12 (sublingual form), 25 mg pyridoxyl 5 phosphate/B6, 400 mcg methyltetrahydrofolic acid (folate)/B9.

Several notes: standard niacin makes you skin flush and niacinamide does not. They are two different forms of vitamin B3 and have different effects on the body. As one study put it:

Low dose niacin relieves inflammation from the GPR109a receptor and niacinamide/nicotinamide does not. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi...

Broad neuroprotective profile of nicotinamide in different mouse models of MPTP‐induced parkinsonism

onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi...

High dose riboflavin is a good mitochondrial supplement and it too has a link to PD:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/145...

I am sure you noticed the multiple threads on Healthunlocked about thiamine and PD.

B12/cobalamin/methylcobalamin has been studied and lower levels are associated with faster progression of PD:

"Our data raise the possibility that prevention or early correction of low B12 status may slow the onset of disability in PD."

michaeljfox.org/foundation/...

Many people on this site note that 5 mg of methylcobalamin/B12 is a high dose but I have been taking that much for 5+ years with no side effects other than improved energy levels. A Dutch study noted that as much as 10,000 mg was given in the same day to smoke inhalation patients to remove cyanide from their system:

Involuntary movements due to vitamin B12 deficiency

tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10....

My point is you can safely take larger than standard doses or you can pick and choose which B vitamins you want to take (in addition a B complex supplement). Say you wanted to take a B complex vitamin and try high dose thiamine therapy, you can do that.

You have many options.

All Nutrabio products are pharmaceutical grade and here is their NAC page:

CoQ10 comes in many forms and the reduced form is called ubiquinol. Standard high dose CoQ10 is called ubiquinone. Ubiquinone was used in the 1,200 mg study and this form is oxidized. Of the two forms ubiquinol is better for someone over the age of 40. The body converts ubiquinone to ubiquinol when needed but, with advanced age, the conversion process may be less efficient. So you may have to experiment which form is best for you. I have tried ubiquinone, ubiquinol and PQQ and could feel no difference between the three so I take the cheapest form: ubiquinone. Ubiquinol is more expensive but the dose is lower. Rather than taking 1,200 mg/day, high dose ubiquinone, 100 mg of ubiquinol (three times a day) is considered high dose (300 mg/day). When I stated I could feel no difference between ubiquinone, ubiquinol and PQQ, I meant that all three have given me excellent results with a caveat - I must take them with a high potency DHA fish oil supplement. When I take either fish oil or coq10 alone the effect vanishes.

The company who has consistently produced high quality ubiquinone and ubiquinol is Kaneka:

google.com/search?client=fi...

Everyone's body is different and what is the best dose for one person may not be the same for another. Fish oil thins the blood so if you are on blood thinners (Warfarin) you cannot take it. Otherwise the maximum daily dose (a blood test is required) is 7,100 mg/day. I have safely taken 1,200 ubiquinone/day with 2,700 mg/day of fish oil for the last 5 years with no negative side effects. I know I have to take a brand of fish oil with high DHA omega 3 content because I ran out and substituted an brand of fish oil with 1,000 mg per gel cap but it was low in DHA omega 3 and the synergy between coq10 and fish oil ended. I started to feel worse and when I added high DHA fish oil, I felt fine.

The Best Brands of CoQ10 2018 Available

1.) CoQ10 and Fish Oil

What is the Coenzyme Q10 combined with? (All brands are ubiquinol CoQ10).

"CoQ10 works best when combined with a fatty acid such as fish oil."

"The oil helps protect CoQ10 as it travels through the body and also helps your body absorb it."

"You also get the added benefits of the Omega 3’s in fish oil."

coq10antiaging.com/best-bra...

Here is an interesting study to ponder.

Does high-dose coenzyme Q10 improve oxidative damage and clinical outcomes in Parkinson's disease?

"Subjects with symptomatic benefits from CoQ10 (decrease in total UPDRS >10 points) had lower baseline plasma ubiquinol (p=0.07, Mann-Whitney U test) and decreased F2-isoprostanes per unit arachidonate (p=0.04, Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks test). These results lead to the hypothesis that the therapeutic response to CoQ10 depends on baseline levels of ubiquinol and whether the dosage of CoQ10 used can ameliorate the burden of oxidative damage."

Silvestrov,

you have been immensely helpful. I hope you dont mind but i have a few quick questions.

If I purchase ubiquinol 100mg (Doctors best - without the fish oil ) and i take it with my omega fish oil supplement (EPA 650mg , DHA 450mg, 130 other omega 3s AND D3 1,000mg (2 capsules)

1. Do i take 3 ubiquinol pills spilt up during the day? ex: 2 with breakfast and 1 with lunch(along w a fishoil supp).

2. does my EPA and DHA quantities seem adequate to you? my brain has been a foggy mess for about two-three weeks so i increased my omegas to 3 capsules . not feeling any better.. think it is because my doctor had me increase my dose of C/L from 3 pills per day to 4 pills/day. .

3. Did you actually feel any changes on these supplements?
