Zandopa

I recently ordered some of this from India and it arrived today. There are, however, no instructions for the dosage you should follow. It merely says on the bottle to follow your doctor's instructions. My doctor knows I have the stuff and he is okay with me trying it, but he knows as much about how much I should take and when to take it as I do. I would be very grateful to know if there is anyone else here who takes it and what their experience has been with it as well as what dose guidelines they have been following. For instance I am currently taking Sinemet 100/25, 1 tablet 4 x per day. Should I continue with the Sinemet as well for the time being? I would be grateful for some informed insight into the use of this medication. Apologies in advance for delays in responding to your posts. I live at the bottom of the world. Thanks ... Robson

Take a look at this website

It looks to me that this is intended to replace Levadopa, Heavy duty side effects and warnings

this is not like just adding some vitamine E to your diet

Carefull , How are things in Detroit

Detroit??? Thanks for your heads up on the side effects of Zandopa. Although I did realise that this is not just another supplement your warning is timely. Thanks also for the link to the other thread on Zandopa. I've read a lot of the replies which seem to be saying that you have to develop your own dosage protocols based on trial and error. I think the maxim of "proceed with caution" is what everyone is trying to say.

I am using it.. No side effects at all.. The dose appear to be individual, you should identify youself what works for you.. With me it is about 2x10g/day and it replaced the Sinemet . I was taking 100/25, 2tbl per day..plus other things. Now I do not feel a need for Sinemet. it is already almost 4 months since I am using Mucuna..

Hi, yes I use it. It tastes sweet enough. I just put my quantity in about 100 ml of water, stir it up well, leave it for about 10 min, tnan stir it up again and drink it all before it would settle down. Than I drink additional glass of watter. Thats all..

Read the book mucuna versus parkinson treatment with natural levodopa. By Dr Rafael Gonzalez. Available through amazon get english version. very good.

Zandopa 1 scoop supplied is equal to 250 gm sinemet. There r 3 teaspoons to a flat scoop. So you need to do a bit of calculating . Reduce the sinemet by half on one of yr daily doses then replace that with the equivilant dose of zandopa . You change over slowly as you will read in book.if you have not taken sinemt and or matapar all the better. The book is the result of clinical studies.

Good luck its worth it

Thanks heaps Angora12. I've been considering a switch to Zandopa for quite a while because Sinemet doesn't seem to do anything for me. I take one 100/25mg tablet x 4 times during the day, so it is a reasonably modest dosage I'm on. However, there have been times when I would swear that my general mobility is worse after taking Sinemet, but you have to be careful making statements of that nature because the mind can play tricks with you when you feel negative about something. My diagnosis is reasonably recent (June 2015), but I resisted taking any prescription meds for it for nearly 6 months.

Thanks also for the basic calculations, but I will also order the book.

As you change your daily dose over and settle on one of your 4 x a day then start on the next dose till you finally change over all doses. As parkinson increase you will have to up your doses we do it by half teaspoons. You will feel mucuna kick in in about 20mins. Restless legs will stop and constipation is helped also. You will get alot of help from the book.

I am starting to use zandopa and I would like to know how much you are now using ? How many grams ? Are you happy with it ? Thanks

I haven't started using it yet, but "D" day is next Monday. I wanted to be absolutely sure of what I was doing and bought a copy of the book for my doctor too. He is pretty relaxed about me doing this, but can't offer a lot of informed guidance to the process. I will keep the group posted. Meanwhile I plan to start by using one scoop of Zandopa to replace my 8.00 am sinement and build progressively from there.

A while back I posted an article showing the conversion equivalents of madopar to Zandopa to sinemet:

I've been taking it along with carbidopa/levadopa (genetic Sinemet) - it works great for me. My dosage is a half of spoon. I take 1 25/100 at 8am then take the half spoon of Zandopa at 9am. My reasoning is to take advantage of the carbidopa in my system to absorbed more levadopa which allows me to continue to be functional and work for 6 hours. Then I take my 2nd dosis at 2pm and 3pm respectively. When I'm on the road I substitute the Zandopa with 7 capsules of 15% mucuna.

Rafael Maldonado, in his book, strongly advised against taking any form of Mucuna if you also had rhythm problems with your heart or were taking blood thinners. I have both, but after prevaricating for weeks I took the plunge and tried the Zandopa I had purchased. Before two days were up I had some scary heart rhythms that stopped my experimentation in its tracks. So I am genuinely pleased for anyone for whom this natural remedy is working, but sadly it doesn't include me.

I read his book. There are some other ways that may help you such as amino acids or coconut oil, you can find the threads on this forum. Most importantly stay active and positive, just keep searching for what works for you.
