Sudden worsening of symptoms

Earlier this week, my husband was doing really well overall (he's on sinemet, Neupro and amantadine, btw). Then 3 days ago, his condition deteriorated terrifyingly quickly. He can no longer get in/out of bed or chairs, walk unassisted, or dress himself. Not interested in food. Some disorientation. No overt other medical conditions. Apart from taking some Aleve, no new meds. He DID forget to remove one of his Neupro patches so we might be dealing with an overdose. But I have no idea what the antidote might be.

Luckily we got a work-in appointment with his neuro late this afternoon but our anxiety levels are through the roof. We are fearful this is the new normal but I didn't think this was the way Parkinson's 'normally' progressed.

If anyone's gone through this and has words of reassurance or advice, I would be grateful.

Thanks.

I wish I had some great advice. From what I have read and experienced Parkinson's doesn't typically progress that quickly. My prayers are with you today.

Thank you. I appreciate the support. The neuro said the same thing about how PD doesn't normally progress that quickly and he's surprised at what is going on. Increasing frequency of meds and running some blood tests and seeing what is what for next 21 days.

Check him for thyroid malfunctioning. Thyroid related issues aggravate PD symptoms

Thanks. Mentioned this to neuro yesterday. He is running some tests including thyroid to see if that is the issue

Any infection such as a urinary track infection can cause symptoms such as you describe. Also check side effects of amantadibe

Thanks. We're getting some lab work done to see if there is "something" going on.

Have the lab results been completed?

Had a call with the doctor this morning. Current issue is severe dehydration, so I'm trying to get him to drink Gatorade+water. The alternative is hospitalization, which is enough motivation for him to down as much as he can. We go back on Friday for another round of tests. We did add some meds last Friday (another carbadopa during the day and an extended carbadopa at night) with little response. The doctor says we won't see a benefit until we get the hydration issue resolved.
