Recovery time when sick with PD

Does anyone else take a lot longer to recover from colds, flu etc. after your PD diagnosis? It seems to take all of my energy to recover from a simple stomach bug. I feel so lazy and overwhelmed at times when sick because all I can do is literally lay around for 3 or 4 days. I mean literally no energy at all. I work daily still so while I'm accustomed to changing energy levels - common illnesses now floor me. The duration and severity seems to have increased - I'm not sick more often than prior thankfully but it lasts longer when it happens. Is this common for PD?

I have experienced the same thing. Difficult start to 2018 with bronchial flu followed by shingles and pneumonia. My resistance seems to be much lower. Energy first seems to go to PD. Taking vitamins, eating well. A bit of exeecising but positive results slow to come. Any ideas for energy boosters welcome.

Thank you. I hope you feel better soon and your energy returns.

Not sure but please take care of yourself if you have a cold, flu is bad this year and Pd can’t possibly be a good influence. It’s not worth getting even sicker if you return to work too soon.

I was going to post the exact same question. Just had a cold that floored me for 2 weeks! Just lay around coughing. Usually they only last around 2 days.

Strangely though my PD symptoms virtually disappeared and I'm beginning to think that eating makes them worse, which is tricky!

Yes - I’ve got a lingering chest infection and I’ve just sent an email saying I won’t be at work tomorrow. I hate being off work, but I’m much better at looking after myself these days. The consequences of not doing so are severe.

Thanks. Feel better soon.

Our son Martin is 49 and has had PD for 7 years. His recovery time to common ailments is not affected but we have found we have to cut his Sinemet by half while he is ill - he seems to become much more sensitive to it until the illness has cleared. Maybe affected by the drugs he's given for the illness.

Same here. I had the flu a month ago and now lingering sinus infection that I can’t seem to get rid of. My parkinson’s symptoms were also milder while sick. Kind of strange.

Sinupret. Vitamin C. Siberian sea buckthorn in a nebuluzer for sinus and chest....remarkable.

Always. Good to use immune boosters to help recovery and the stress vitamins...C and b complex....you can’t overdose- they are water soluable and you will just urinate and swear out any extra. Sickness creates stress and the PD body is already under stress.
