myocardial perfusion stress test and PD

I'm scheduled to have a nuclear stress test at the end of the week. Among other things it involves an injection of a tiny dose of radioactive thallium and seeing how the heart muscle reacts. Are there any of you who have had this test and did it have an effect on your pd? Thanks, Jon

I have PD and had a nuclear stress test seven years after my first PD symptoms. I had no adverse reaction. My understanding is that the injected dye has no impact on the heart muscle, it just enables monitoring of the blood flow in and around your heart. The primary impact on your heart is normal increased heart activity during the stress (treadmill) portion of the test. Doctors have options to avoid the treadmill if they believe that you are at risk.

What a coincidence! I was scheduled for the same test to be performed this Friday, but after researching subject online called to cancel it. Here are some links:

theplc.net/Cardiac_Stress_T...

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

The second link is very long and technical. Scroll half way to "Direct and indirect risks of stress testing" to get an idea what this is all about. I printed out that part to discuss with the doctor at my appointment.

Good luck to you!

I have had this test and recommend if you have a tremor on one side of the body request to have the BP cup placed on opposite arm. I also would let the tech know how you would feel most comfortable as I had a terrible experience.

Because my tremor is on the same side they had th BP cuff on and had to place my arm over my heat in catscan machine for 25 minutes. This caused great stress and tremor intensified tremendousl.

Not an experience I will ever repeat.

The dye does absolutely nothing to the heart muscle and the radioactivity of the thallium is so low that you won't glow in the dark. Its good to be cautious but there's a reason the Doctor suggested the test!

Hello! I just had this stress test and other than my heart racing for a few seconds and a headache for about a half hour after, no problems. Good luck with your test.

Thanks. Took the test w/o difficulty (except that I couldn't have lasted another second). No after effects.
