That's crazy! I'm out of town but I'll talk to headquarters when I get back & see what they have to say about that. I pay $60/month.

I have been looking into this. They want $150.00 per month for twice a week, There seems to be no standard for the cost.

Coincidently I just looked into this also and was a little surprised by the cost. $85 to join and $90/month. This does also allow use of a nice club however I'll have a hard enough time getting there three times per week. It would be nice if they had a more reasonable option just for the classes.

We visited the place on Maple E of 75...and thought it was a little pricey for us - we are part of a support group at Beamont in Royal Oak . A few folks in the group just love Rock Steady and demonstrated at a meeting - does look like fun!!!! They are very enthusiastic about it from a physical and social benefit:)

WELL HELLO FELLOW MICHIGANDER!

I knew you were from Michigan!! There is a page that shows how close people are to you and you came up 12 miles!!!!!!! I had to chime in😄 I don't know what the page is called - It accidentally appeared😆 Fun. This is a PSP page. My husband was, as many have been, originally diagnosed with Parkinson's.

If you really want to do something about the progression of your Pd then look at my profile and contact me. Fast walking costs you NOTHING and the results are far better than those achieved so far that know of with boxing. I have reversed most of my movement symptoms and have lived a NORMAL LIFE, medication-free since 2002. Please contact me if you need help. It costs nothing.

Hi John, the only thing is i live in Michigan where we have a ton of snow and its hard to walk in that but i will def try this inside of my office building

Hi Robin. Please forgive me for not taking into account your weather conditions. I live n a country where I can walk or play golf every day of the year. I have lived in England, which does not have as much snow as you, but I have forgotten all that.

I suggest to other people that they do their walking n a shopping mall or an indoor track. That will not solve everybody's problem, but it does solve some of them.

Checkout Hasfit Boxing on youtube, gives you a good workout and is free. Different level videos for beginners to advanced. Not going to be as good as a programme tailored for PD but uses a lot of the same movements I would imagine.

There are quite a few rocksteady boxing videos on you tube would be good if someone made a home workout rocksteady vid for people who cant get to a class or find the prices too high

Tell me about it! I set up my own home exercising, with videos, instead. It’s really expensive to go to some exercise programs, here in Michigan.

Contact your local Parkinson’s Foundation. I know many have Exercise Grants available to help pay for a class or a personal trainer. The grants are not need based. They are based on the honor system that you need the funds. And the application form is simple and easy.

Thank you Heidi1, that info will be helpful to many. Rock Steady has something similar. I have a feeling that RobynS can afford it, but is just saying the amount that particular RSB is charging is way overboard, which she is right.

ACTUALLY NO I CANT AFFORD IT! I WORK FULL TIME BUT DO NOT MAKE GREAT WAGES SO THIS IS WAY TO MUCH FOR ME TO AFFORD

Pedaling for Parkinson's is another alternative.

What John Pepper said. Exercise does not have to cost $. If you are looking for support and comradeship, then post for someone to go walking with you. Or cycling - or swimming.

I think Rock Steady has a policy of not turning anyone away because of cost. I can't imagine they wouldn't work with you on this.

well she sure didnt mention it.. It just seems to me that alot of people dont have an extra 400 a month for classes. That is about half of my mortgage note. :(

Hi Robyn,

Wow that's incredible. I live in Boca Raton, FL and here at the PD Center all classes are free and you can go or not. You just have to pay to join for the year. I paid $65 for the whole year for me and my sister who is the one with PD. You sure there's no Parkinsons Center near you? I wish you luck cause that's a great class to attend.

Aloha,

OMG that's great. They are great. WE get a calendar every month and they have yoga (chair if necessary), Tai chi, Boxing and voice stuff and everything. They are a great resource. We use the calendar to plan what activities my sis wants to go to. I wish you luck.

The nearest RSB facility to me is 45 minutes away in Old Forge, PA. They charge $80/month,which is a little pricey for me. It's not a fancy club, it's in an old manufacturing building. It is a 45 minute drive there, a 90 minute class, and 45 minuted back home. I still work and can't manage the three hours. In Northeast PA, there is no Parkinson's Foundation,no support groups, and a medical community which is not especially aware.

RS313 profile image
RS313 in reply to S70AWD

$80 dollars is affordable to me i would have to pay almost $400 a month! I have also sent emails to Michigan Parkinsons foundation with no reply as of yet :(

FYI: The director of RSB was out of town, she's supposed to call me sometime this to discuss the cost issue. I'll let you know what I find out.

Do you actually live in the town Northeast, PA? One of my friends lives there, born & raised, moved away & is back now.

Hi Gerry

Don't worry about these classes I can't afford them either, just keep taking your meds and to keep your brain active I play on game es and do word searches and I have got myself a puzzle which helps with concentration. Just be yourself and keep active.PD it's like an alien the more you think about it the more it will take over.no need for expensive classes and if you can get some breathing exercises that will help,if you Google swami ramdev pranayam, you will find his execercises.

I hope this has helped

RobynS,

I talked to RSB headquarters and they said there is not a set amount for what the affiliates can charge. It's an affiliate rather than a franchise so there are not as many rules regarding that typed of thing. In training class, they try to emphasize that most PwP's are retired and are on a limited income. They also explained there are different factors that can drive the costs up, i.e. cost of living is higher in some locations (CA vs IN), the facility costs (some are in an already established gym that charges affiliates rent to occupy space and those type of charges can vary), etc etc....Most places will agree to reduce the fee if the PwP tells them they are on a limited income. Hope this helps explain some of the differences in costs.
