Different Med manufacturers

I take Carbidopa 25 along with my other meds. I had always been using manufacturer Alvogen.

The pharmacist changed me to another manufacture for Carbidopa three days later I was in ER so dizzy, short of breath and just felt terrible. The ER doc talked to the pharmacist in the hospital and he said there was a active ingredient that my body doesn’t like. So he said to try and always keep the same manufacturer.

It works for me just wondering if anyone knows for sure? Have had no problems since but I make sure all my meds are same manufacturer.

Wow. This ought not to happen. The active ingredient is supposed to be identical. The inactive ingredients are supposed to be harmless. For a 25 mg dose about 90% of the pill or capsule will be inactive ingredient. Who manufactured the meds that sent you to the ER? This should have been reported to the FDA as an adverse event by your MD. You can do something similar at askapatient.com/

I make sure all my meds are the same manufacturer this just drives Walgreens nuts but oh well it’s on my file so the way I feel do your job.

Alvogen is the manufacturer I can do, and Actavis I can’t do.

This is a bit confusing sleddog.

You wrote that the pharmacist said to try and keep to the same manufacturer. Are you trying to do this for every med so for eg get all your meds from Alvogen. Or is it just the one drug that you get consistently from the same drug manufacturer.

No Alvogen for my Carbidopa only. But I make sure all my meds are by the same manufacturer that I’ve been taking for years. It may just be me but the hospital pharmacist said it can make a difference.
