I was diagnosed with Mild Parkinson Syndrome a year ago. Neurologist at Mayo said no meds but must exercise which I do. Anyone else out there with mild PD?

Hi Mary, My mother, has been recently diagnosed with Parkinsonism, and she just went through the cognitive assessment, which came back that she had mild cognitive impairment. We are, at the moment, assessing what next steps to take. The movement disorder neurologist set the next appointment in January!! Meanwhile, I have been looking into options for my mom. We have an appointment for her to get the Hinz amino acid therapy treatment, but we are not sure if we will pursue that or not. We are also considering starting on Mucuna Pruriens with a number of supplements. I am hesitant for her to start on Carbidopa/Levodopa yet because she has few motor issues, aside from bradykinesia/slow movement and the mild cognitive impairment. All the Best

Thanks. What is Heinz amino acid therapy?

This is an overview of it. It sounds logical, but I can't endorse it as of yet, other than to say some people have found it helpful. It is expensive, also, and the amount of Mucuna Pruriens required is apparently a high dosage. But here is the info: naturalsolutionsforparkinso...

Also, there are many other links on this site, people discussing it.

Warm Regards,

Sarah

Mary1208, mild Parkinson's is just another way of saying, very early stage one. In the beginning, it is best to keep any medication to a minimum. Follow your doctor's advice. Be very wary of some ideas that may be expressed here. Good luck in your journey.

Regards,

Bill

Thanks Bill. My Neuro said I don't need any meds. Of course, that could change. I do PEDALING FOR PD 3 times a week. I tried boxing but could not get hang of it. Hope to try again. Also started yoga other day.

In 1992, when I was diagnosed with Pd my neurologist said that it was mild and in the very early stage. That was peculiar, because I had had Pd symptoms since 1963 and when I was diagnosed I had over 20 Pd symptoms, but he never asked me about them. It was only when I started to shuffle that my doctor put two and two together and sent me to the neurologist.

I have been able to overcome most of my Pd movement symptoms and have been medication-free since 2002. You can look at my profile for more info on that.
