Mayo Clinic is investigating Inosine as a possible therapy to slow the progression of PD. Inosine raises uric acid levels, this is associated with Gout and the side effect is kidney stones . Inosine is neuro-protective; do people with PD also suffer from Gout or vise versa?
Since there are nearly 10,000 registered people in this community, it would be interesting to see how many suffer from gout.
i think eliminating dairy can increase your uric acid levels too. i had met a guy at at event in Buffalo this year who had gout, then got PD and his gout went away. and i think that is because PD drops uric acid levels, wheres gout pushes it up and you need a certain level
Yes eliminate dairy and especially low fat dairy ( I think cheese is actually ok). I was having porridge with skimmed milk and it did me no good at all. Other things that raise uric acid levels include beer and seafood.
You need to have beer with friends though for the full benefit.
I dont think gout raises uric acid levels but rather gout is caused by high levels of uric acid that crystalize within the joint spaces, usually the foot
Maybe, but my uric acid levels were lower than normal. Maybe there is a happy medium Goldilocks level that gives a neuroprotective effect and doesn't cause all the other problems. I have been in the inosine trial for the past year. They have been keeping a close eye on my uric acid levels.
1) Inosine is not the only supplement which raises uric acid levels. Adenosine triphosphate also raises uric acid levels and both ATP and inosine are athletic supplements:
Adenosine 5′-triphosphate (ATP) supplements are not orally bioavailable: a randomized, placebo-controlled cross-over trial in healthy humans
2) The uric acid/PD relationship is primarily a male only relationship. The evidence that uric acid has a positive relationship with women is lacking.

Around 10 years ago I had my one & only attack of gout in my left big toe. I have taken Alopurinol ever since as I have no intention of going through the pain again. The ankle & lower leg were so hot you could have fried eggs on them!
