Looking to retrain my Brain

I'm new here.Seeking plant remedies for PD (eg.Mucuna) as well as activies other than exercise(yuck) for my advancing PD...John pepper's ideas are wonderful but I'm to decrepit and sedentary for his walking. Forget mainstream doctors-except Dr Doidge and his neuroplasticity evidence -brain retraining is fascinating-lots of hard work and focus but it works....

My Experience: I stopped Sinement 2 yrs ago because it wasn't working as well and I am afraid of developing its side effects. Gradually replaced it with Mucuna Pruriens. Now I use the cheapest and best form of it- organic powder. -1 Tablespoon an hour in water or mixed with a homemade thickener to make swallowing easier for me. . (Have swallowing and speaking problems and am currently practicing speaking-which causes many of the same muscles as swallowing )

I would suggest checking out brainhq.com - it is a site that is based on the work of Dr. Michael Merzenich who is a world authority on brain plasticity. Dr., Merzenich wrote a book called Soft-Wired and I believe he also has a website with that name. I look forward to reading the book. I am sent daily exercises at this point and some I can handle and others confuse me. I do not have Parkinson's - I am in this community because my youngest son, 37, was diagnosed with early onset at the end of April. The support here to me as a parent has been very warm and embracing.

Bless your heart! Your son is lucky to have such an engaged parent.

Thank you Beckey for your kind words. My son is supported by an agency that supports those who are developmentally challenged so whatever information I have received from the Michael J. Fox Foundaiton, I share with them and they are grateful for my support as well. I stress that I want us all on the same page to be able to help and encourage him.

Have you looked into LSVT BIG & LSVT LOUD?

I'm sorry I don't understand what these initials mean?

LSVT is Lee Silverman Voice Treatment - he came up with a program called LSVT Loud to help increase the voice and then added LSVT BIG to help PwP's (Persons with Parkinson's) to make bigger movements. It's a physical therapy type program that really helps. Look it up on Google to understand the program a little better.

There are many sources-more all the time . I shop for it on line-just google Mucuna or mucuna pruriens . I prefer organic powders at home and caps etc when out.
