Who is finding 5-HTP useful? For what? At what dosage? I've read that it boosts serotonin, helping anxiety, depressIon and tremors, but that smaller doses work better than larger ones.

  • It has helped me sleep at times. 100-150 mg at bedtime.

  • My primary care physician recommended that I take 100 mg nightly as a sleep aid. Works well for me.

  • I don't have sleep problems but wondered whether it would help with anxiety?

  • Ditto the above

  • I've recently started having little shadows of anxiety (14 years after diagnosis), so the 5-HTP hasn't eliminated that. But it's possible that it has mitigated it. Maybe you want to try it for 1-2 weeks and see if it helps keep the "old grey dog" of excess worry at bay.

From WEBMD: <<How does it work? 5-HTP works in the brain and central nervous system by increasing the production of the chemical serotonin. Serotonin can affect sleep, appetite, temperature, sexual behavior, and pain sensation. Since 5-HTP increases the synthesis of serotonin, it is used for several diseases where serotonin is believed to play an important role including depression, insomnia, obesity, and many other conditions.>>

  • Many thanks
