Who is finding 5-HTP useful? For what? At what dosage? I've read that it boosts serotonin, helping anxiety, depressIon and tremors, but that smaller doses work better than larger ones.

It has helped me sleep at times. 100-150 mg at bedtime.

Do you still take 5-htp still? I read something controversial at some point. Don’t remember where it was. I do take Sinemet. Was wondering about your intake of it. I took it once and slept very well.

Not taking anything for sleep right now.

"Because antidepressants generally work by increasing serotonin in the brain, 5-HTP could [emphasis added] combine with these medications to cause high concentrations of serotonin. Having too much serotonin can lead to serotonin syndrome, a serious condition characterized by dangerously high heart rate, blood pressure, and temperature. 5-HTP can interact with other classes of drugs, like migraine and pain medications, that also affect serotonin concentrations. My primary care physician recommended that I take 100 mg nightly as a sleep aid. Works well for me.

I don't have sleep problems but wondered whether it would help with anxiety?

I've recently started having little shadows of anxiety (14 years after diagnosis), so the 5-HTP hasn't eliminated that. But it's possible that it has mitigated it. Maybe you want to try it for 1-2 weeks and see if it helps keep the "old grey dog" of excess worry at bay.

From WEBMD: <<How does it work? 5-HTP works in the brain and central nervous system by increasing the production of the chemical serotonin. Serotonin can affect sleep, appetite, temperature, sexual behavior, and pain sensation. Since 5-HTP increases the synthesis of serotonin, it is used for several diseases where serotonin is believed to play an important role including depression, insomnia, obesity, and many other conditions.>>
