Seroquel... my husband was given this some years back during a hallucination episode that turned out to be another drug caused and has been on maintenance dose of 50mg at night since - when taken off it in hospital due to operation he did not do as well - he settled again within two weeks of restarting the maintenance dose. I use drugs.com to check all his medications and possible side effects - have picked up two that he definitely had during last 12 years on other medications. But we are all different and take other medications so this can only be how husband is. hope it helps.

Yes it helps thank u and i hope he is doing better now. Does this sound reasonable or cautious, etc? Neuro wants to have husband in hospital to start the med and get it regulated? Reason for starting it is hallucinations that she feels are causing more anxiety and confusion.

Many thx for ur time

My daughter has used Serequel for a number of years, rather than taking Xyprexa or some other antipsychotic medicine, but it's still not an easy med to take. My daughter gained a LOT of weight, but without Serequel, she cannot sleep at night, and it definitely helps her to reduce manic symptoms. Also, depending on the dosage, etc., Serequel can make one very "groggy" in the morning. That has bothered my daughter the most and to function properly, she sometimes does not take the med, which can create a bad situation.

Thank u so much for this info. Can u tell me how not taking it affected her. I know these meds can be difficult and i do not want to start it but he does need relief i am trying to be proactive. Also regarding the weight gain this sounds like a ridiculous question but did the med itself put on the weight or did she have a sharp increase in appetite or maybe both?

Causes extreme craving, which can result in other medical issues. With Parkinsons, there is sometimes a drop in weight so perhap a weight gain might not occur. Personality changes also possible. Serequel, like some of the ither, antipsychotics, can "flatten" the personality. That was so different for my daughter, I was always askibg, "are you okay?" She would assure me, but she was very uncommunicative for several hours in the morning when the med was still in effect.

An antipsychotic--for counteracting the side effects of Sinamet. Caused me to gain weight.

I have taken it to help me sleep at times. It is an antipsychotic but, for me, it just helps my body relax after taking levodopa all day. I like it because, for me, there are no other side effects and I can stop taking it any time without issue, unlike other sleep medications. I have taken it during the day but it takes a while to adjust as it can make one sleepy or tired, although once adjusted it is not an issue for me. Hope this helps...
