Sinemet SR

Hi Everyone,

My good friend takes 4 x Sinemet 25/100 a day and has trouble with very bad stiffness and difficulty getting up in the night.

Does anyone know whether taking a Sinemet SR as her last dose at 7pm instead of the normal dose perhaps help her during the night?

Her PD Doctor has only suggested taking an extra Sinemet later in the evening.

Anyone take Sinemet SR with Sinemet?

Many Thanks

She could try that, and see if it makes any difference to stiffness at night. Everybody is different.

Melatonin might help too.

I take sinamet during the day and SR at night, but the SR is at twice the dose of the plain sinamet, as it lasts twice as long. Don't know if this helps but the SR dose reduced my morning stiffness.

Makes perfect sense to me. When my Sinemet wears off my left calf muscle gets painfully stiff. Sinemet gets rid of it.

There is no such thing as SR. Persumably you are referring to CR, the controlled release version. For some reason the immdiate release version gets prescribed by default but it is inferior. The question should not be why she taking the CR but rather why she is taking the immediate release version at all.

The Sinemet CR or controlled release, is also referred to as sustained release by the manufacturer, I assumed that she used SR for sustained release, instead of the usual CR. Controlled release and sustained release are interchangeable. It is no big deal.

My prescription is for Sinemet CR (+ 1 Azilect daily).

I try to spread the Sinemet CR evenly through the 24 hour day. I take the first one on waking, then snooze for half an hour before getting up.

I take the last tablet just before going to bed, usually at about midnight.

If I wake in the night with cramp I drink some Tonic Water (which contains Quinine).

Although my husband has not tried CR Sinemet, he did add Amantadine 100 mg twice a day which did wonders for his rigidity. He was diagnosed 4.5 years ago, and doing well on 1/2 of Sinemet 25/100 mg 3 times a day.

On gym mornings, he does take a full tablet dose an hour before lunch.

Still, it's the Amantadine that made a big difference in the rigidity. Maybe worth a trial?

Good luck!

My doctor recently up my carbo/levo from 4x a day 25/100 to 5xs a day plus carbo/levo 200mg at night. I've been on c/l for a cou0le years. Not a fan of taken an aspirin b4 pd, but also not a fan of stiffness pain etc. I just started the 5times cl but am confused about the carbo levo 200mg. Was wondering is 200mg of cl the same drug as cr?
