Anyone else have scoliosis with Parkinson?I read that Parkinson can cause it also??Dr says nothing can b e done to help??

I've had scoliosis since childhood and was diagnosed with PD 3 months ago. Not sure though that PD caused it.

PD can cause posture problems and back pain, but I haven't heard of it causing scoliosis (which is a sideways curvature of the spine).

Where did you read Parkinson's can cause scoliosis? Think that's important to know.

I just googled it?I have no idea if true will ask his Dr next time we go and get his opinion?

Google has as much incorrect or partially correct information as a first grader in the law school at Harvard. So many us get really screwed up by doing our own "research" on it. Yes, it is best to talk with your doctor if you have faith in him.

I was diagnosed with scoliosis ( & Scheuermann's disease & osteoarthritis) about 10 years ago but believe I was probably born with it. The diagnosis only came about when I had other issues & had an MRI. I was dx with PD 20 months ago. My neurologist doesn't believe there's a connection, though rigidity from PD aggravates the other problems.

Yes, I have it but I didn't know about it until a few years ago. I was dxed in July, 2004. I don't know which came first but, they are both hell on your posture.

I have both, but can't believe one has anything to do with the other (as far as cause is related) The pain and stiffness of PD is aggravated by scoliosis.

The specialist who did my dexigram said I have it, but no doctor has even mentioned it....they'll hear about it big time when I o into my screening for using Prolia....and if anything can be done to lesson the risk of wedge shaped formations in my spine.

I don't think there is anything causal, but there seems to be a correlation between the two. Perhaps a methylation problem?

My husband got a spine that is bent to the left (a type of scoliosis according to the physical therapist he is working with right now) at the same time he became bent over forward up to about 90 degrees sometimes (I believe it's called camptocormia, from the research I have done on being bent forward -- which does go along with Parkinson's in SOME people. Only about 6% is what I have read. Not everyone gets this...) The left curvature gets "better" and "worse" depending on what looks to me like his brain getting/not getting enough "fuel" to function correctly. We use some ketone drinks to give him brain fuel, and anything that turns into sugar affects his insulin resistance and makes him less able to stand straighter, so we try to follow a more Paleo/almost Ketogenic type diet... These are just my own observations... nothing "official" or on Google.

I was diagnosed with PD 14 years ago. Started to notice back pain about 5 years ago. I now have a scoliosis and there seemed to be no help . It's extremely painful and I think absolutely that PD rigidity on the left side of my body has pushed my spine to the right. Am now embarking on a search for good treatment and advice ( non- surgical). I am just 68 so need to hurry.
