Kind of scary and a weird symptoms recently of seeing a bright flash of light in eyes that wakes me up. Last for an instant. Been on c/l and rasaglinne for a year. Wonder if a strange symptom of meds or pd. I've heard some who have migraines experience something similiar.

Beware Opt8 : this could have nothing to do with PD and be retinal detachment - which is an emergency. Really sorry if I alarm you needlessly, but I had to tell you.

I had something similar but I was not asleep.

My husband Had a retinal detachment. After bright zigzag flashes it was like a curtain was coming down and getting lower and lower. He could not see where the curtain came down. He did have it reattached and everything was fine. It was a bad experience. They had to drain his eye fluid and they filled it with gas and he had to keep his head down and sleep on his stomach for something like six weeks till the eye field with fluid and the gas got reabsorbed. Also since his own fluid was drained he developed a cataract in less than a year and had to have his lens taken out and to have cataract surgery.

There is something called ocular migraine and it produces bright flashes. However I would definitely talk to a doctor.

Thank you for your reply. I'm glad your husband is doing better. I read a lot at night on my tablet and wonder if that too could be a contributing factor.

I Dont have PD but my husband does, I noticed your comment about flashing lights. I started having those at age 65. My eye doctor explained that they're common as we grow older, can't remember the diagnosis but I still have them from time to time but actually they are not a real problem for me. So this is not necessarily caused by PD

You might be thinking about ocular migraine. Trust me that is not what you are experiencing. I have no idea what your flashes that awaken you are but they are not an ocular migraine. I get those and they wouldn't wake a person.

Go to <parkinsons.org.uk> and look at symptoms/eye problems

Thank you all for your posts. I did make an eye doc appointment. Fortunately have not experienced that since I stopped reading at night on my tablet. Not sure if that is why tho. Thank you again. Hope your day is a good one.

I know that reading on any kind of digital screen will cause anyone to go into a kind of trance stare. That, together with the fact that we PWPs don't blink enough anyway, could really be straining your eyes. I wonder if purposely letting your eyes close and relax for 2 or 3 seconds every couple of minutes when you are on your tablet would help.
