It's amazing since Trazodone has once been suspected to induce Parkinsonism.

Nevertheless, the BBC paper is very positive.

I'm a little late for this post, just now seeing it. I take Trazadone 100mg every single time I go to bed for the night. It is a tranquilizer and helps me sleep especially when I take it with my flexoril which was okayed by my Rheumatologist. I don't know if it helps with my arthritis but it helps relax everything which is good because when I'm in pain I tense up really bad. It is a good medication for sleep for me anyway for the most part

Hi Melslex - what's your view on this research then ? Has your Parkinson's progressed in the time you've taken the Trazadone ? Would you recommend it ? Any negative side effects ?

Do you feel Trazodone has helped? How long have you taken it? As it stopped the progression of your PD?

I have been taking it for 3 years and it has helped me a lot.

Good. Could you clarify how it has helped you. They're suggesting it might stop the progression of PD. Do you feel that has happened?

This mouse is taking it (Trazodone). Hopefully it will have similar results in humans;

Yes. I also take Trazodone with my dosage increased to 100 MG.. my Neuro made the increase because I reported difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep. When I finally do, I suffer from night terrors and either I wake myself or my wife tries to rouse me from the episode either way, the result is no restful sleep. I exercise within my PT sessions four days a week (I broke my neck five months ago.)

Even with the increased dosage of my meds, I still can't sleep. I was and am taking 6 MG of Melatonin and 50 MG of Sertraline (Zoloft) which was also subscribed for depression and reportedly aids sleep. Nope!

Trazodone doesn't do anything to control my tremors. I've had my Carb/Leva increased for those to 175 MG. Those seem to help my tremors when I take them, but would wear off late afternoon toward evening.

He has also told me that he wants me to do a sleep study. He's been saying that since July 2016. This last follow-up appointment, April 18, 2017, we asked about the study again and told him that i hadnt been notified that I was scheduled for the study.

This time we saw that he put in the order with the sleep clinic. He also said that if I hadn't heard anything from them within two weeks, he wanted me to call him and let him know. We'll see how it goes.

Anyone have these issues? Help! Suggestions?

I take Trazodone -- 75 mg every night for close to a year now. It helps me get to sleep. I don't know if it helps with the PD but getting sleep certainly helps.

Thanks Theresa. So how long have you had PD ? And have you noticed any progression in that time ?

DOESEN'T SOUND LIKE OUR MIRACLE DRUG...... MAYBE IT'S IN THE DOSAGE??

WHAT STRIKES ME IS THAT THEY WIGGED INTO A NATURAL BRAIN PROTECTING MECHANISIM..... SLEEP BEING ONE.

partypants in reply to 999---666

It's not a cure. Not sure what you expect. If it halts the progression that's good enough for the time being for me. If improved sleep is what's causing the benefits then wouldn't they see improvements with other sleeping pills ?

NOTHING LIKE NATURAL SLEEP. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.... ALL KINDS OF SLEEP, SOME REORDER YOUR DAY'S EXPERIENCE, WHICH COULD EXPLAIN DEMENTIA. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION.

IMMUNE SYSTEM IS INVOLVED, I BELIEVE.

IT SAYS THEY HAVE SOMETHING FOR BRAIN NEURONS BUT MS IS SPINAL NEURON DAMAGE...............

I THINK THEY ARE REPLICATING THE EQUIVALENT OF A BIO-CHEMICAL I POSTED ABOUT WHILE BACK. GONA LOOK UP.

medicalxpress.com/news/2017...

IF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM HAS A REPAIR SYSTEM FOR MYOLYN, IT LOGICALLY HAS SOMETHING IN IT'S ARSENAL FOR BRAIN NEURONS, OBVIOUSLY, BUT IT BACKFIRES, PRODUCES VIRAL BODYBAGS THAN CLOG OR IS IT NOT ABLE TO TURN BACK ON BECAUSE OF DNA DAMAGE, POSSIBLY.

Nowhere in the article does it mention MS.

Something to be aware of,

Do not use trazodone if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine. After you stop taking trazodone, you must wait at least 14 days before you start taking an MAOI.
