Azilect question?

I am thinking about taking Azilect because my pd symptoms are progressing. I'm always afraid of a new drug and wonder what others have experienced. Thank you.

I have found it really helpful in treating my muscle stiffness and particularly my fatigue. ( I don't have much tremor). It did take a while to get used to though as initially I got quite dizzy after taking it. For a while I took it at night to sleep through the dizzy time, but then I switched back to mornings so I wouldn't be so tired at night.

I take 1mg each day along with magnesium and NAC ( a wonder supplement in my opinion). Most time I don't remember I have PD unless stressed. I also don't over do it.

If I were you, I'd go for it. It's one of the drugs that is showing to slow down the progression (I heard this in a talk about PD and nutrition given by Laura Mischley recently.) I tried it, but had some side effects that made me want to drop it. I had trouble with my joints - and attributed it to the drug, although am not 100% sure it was the cause. I am tempted to try it again in case I was wrong...

Go for it! It is one of the milder PD drugs and have had no issues with it only improvement. If it doesn't work, stop taking it. Check out other posts on this subject.

I'd just come out of it after taking over 2 years. You have to be careful with your diet. Read more info.

I was on Eldepryl for 8 years, and the only side effect was raised blood pressure levels. Eldepryl and Azilect are bot MAO-b inhibitors. I highly recommend them.

But if you are thinking that any medication does anything to slow down the progression of your Pd, then think again.

If you start a Fast Walking program, at the same time as taking an MAO-b inhibitor, then you will be helping your Pd and reversing the symptoms at the same time.

I took Azilect for 8 years.Don't know if it helped or not. I was having nightly episodes of depression. I would worry and obsess about every thing, cried almost every night about something. Stopped taking alll meds and added all back one at a time but did not restart Azilect and the night time problems went away. Only thing I changed.

It depends what you call "new" drug - Azilect has been used for PD for some years now. I take it together with Sinemet and nearly 5 years down the line my symptoms are under control. Exercise is definitely helpful - I'm just off to Tai Chi followed by Dance for Parkinsons!

After starting Azilect this spring, I did start having some very vivid dreams. I also started Azilect just after my diagnosis, so the vivid dreams may have been a result of the additional stress. It reduced my stiffness and returned some of my sense of smell which was nice. I'd recommend.

I have been taking it since October 2015 after refusing it for 4 months. I had bad reactions to Sinemet and Mirapex and didn't want to take any meds. I gave in, took the Azilect , had no side effects and felt better in about two weeks. My mood,was better, my flexibility improved and I had more energy. It is important to understand that everyone with Parkinson's responds differently to various medications though.

Extreme nausea, sweating and panic attacks.

Thank you all for your responses to my question about Azilect! Did not know it was going generic. That is great news. current I just started taking it and already notice a positive difference with my extreme stiffness and feeling like I was going to fall suddenly sometimes.

I take Azilect 1 mg and have found no bad side effects from it.
