When and what to eat?

For a week now i have been eating mostly small meals through out the day. If I eat a large meal it blocks my meds to some extent no matter what I eat. The last two days i have not eaten any large meals and my meds have worked spot on. Has any one else had the same experience.

Yes I find that to be true. Also I find meat the worst, then chicken, then fish. I believe your conclusion to be right, little and often, meat rarely , fish mainly seem to be good for me and regular exercise.

I have been diagnosed for 7 years now, and take sine met plus 1 of 6 times a day and a 1x 8mg neuro patch a day. Started yo do a walk each morning again and it does help.

This is exactly what happens to me! It's very frustrating. I'm taking sinemet every 3 hours, until 6:30 pm. During the day it's difficult to determine when to eat and what to eat! Ugh!

Hi Bailey. There is general agreement that Protein in the gut interacts with levodopa and that levodopa does not get to the brain, where it is needed. It is generally recommended that you should eat protein at least 1 hour before taking levodopa medication. It would be better to wait longer than 1 hour depending on the size of the meal. You should be able to eat 45 minutes after taking levodopa, which should be clear of the stomach by then.

Don't take for granted what food does or does not have protein in it. Look on Google to see all the foods that have protein in them.

Bailey, yes, I am the same. A medium-large meal of anything blocks my meds to some extent. (However, when I have overeaten and I know I'm going to suffer, I do a gentle abdominal massage and this helps slightly. I guess the massaging action helps to move the food along a little faster.)
