Sun down syndrome.

I read a reference to Sun down syndrome.

I think i do this most evenings. I get stiff, depressed, fatigue,just feel like crap. If i realize what is happening and get up and go for a walk or do something it passes okay. But if i give in it last a hour or two.

Does anyone else have this problem.

Sure do. I am a widow living alone and it often hits. I pace the house or walk outside as far as I am able; talk on the phone; play the piano - whatever diverts. Nights are long. If I could solve the "no sleep" riddle I think this sun- downers would be solved.

I sleep on the floor with a 6 inch fan blowing in my face only about a foot away.This is like white noise and i can sleep longer. The fan blocks any sudden noises that would wake me.

I think we will go back to Benadryl. It works & is benign

Dozim, Benadryl may not be so benign. There have been some studies released recently showing that there is a connection between long term usage of anticholinergic medications like Benadryl and dementia. Here's a link to one study:

I hesitated to bring this up because I have read several people on this forum who say that they solve their sleep problems with Benadryl. Sleep is so precious, and I don't want to upset anyone.

You're absolutely right, Bailey. I guess the best we can do is search for a place of compassion in our hearts and then say what we have to say.

Bailey_Texas Mine starts about 5 pm, and I make sure I do something to cheer myself up before it gets bad. Like right now I am going to draw a mandala and color it. Then when the weather cools down, I will go for a walk and look at all the beautiful roses in the neighborhood 🌺😎👍

Greetings! I have just read your post and I have the same thing. After dinner I have to get up right away so that I do not fall asleep. This is also the time when I often feel weepy and I have to push myself through. Then I keep going and get my second wind and I'm good for another 3 or 4 hours. I sleep pretty well but for the last month or so, I have night terrors more often. My husband has to wake me up so that I can come out of it. What is up with that? I have been concentrating on exercise since I finished the Big and Loud program and have also been riding my tricycle. It seems hard to fit it all in some days. Hope you are able to get back into a good routine. Peace.

Also i do better if i stay busy during that time.

Definitely part of my issues. My sense is that is fatigue🌛 My problem is I fall asleep, wake up at 7:00 or 8:00pm and then am awake till after midnight. Any ideas anyone?

I always thought it was the body warning that you are out of homeostasis and need a little r&r...feet up, body flat. The 'new' discovery that siestas are really good for you is funny...who didn't know that but there had to be a study to 'know' that. Wonder if they would do a study to see if people who take siestas have less sundown syndrome? Haha

in my case sleeping or not is the results off small things

if only one off severel bagatell is not on place , sleeping is turned into a problem.

At the time sleeping is not a problem but it has been terrible.

my list.

Dopamin agonist is a sleep-killer.After stopping with this drug sleep is ok but i also lost the joy of life and got depressed.If you use a neuro "plaster" , tear it off 1 hour before sleeping and if you are "the chosen one" you will be amased about the effect. Put a new one on the skin when you wake up the next morning.

Sleep on the side.

Sleep naken. I know you think this is rubbish but try it for 4 weeks and you will never more go back.It is also mutch easyer to turn around in the bed due to less friction between the skinn and the bed.I bougth a silke "laken" to lay on because its low friction but this was a fiasko.When you sleep naken the skin and the silke created more friction than the normal choise and change of sleeping position was almost impossible and silke underlay was "hard and terrible cold" so this was money out of the window.

If you get a dry mouth it is because there is to mutch restrictions for the air passing threw the nose.I am totaly dependent on a nose-binders to put in the nose to open for the air.I cant sleep without it any longer.

amazing PWP are more alike than we think. The more we write the more we seem to find we have in common. Naked you bet. Dopamin agonist i do take for restless leg. i agree with all you said. if you have a partner if they are naked too it helps!!!! WOO WOO.

consider that you have sleep apnea and get tested. the machine forces moist air into the nasal passages and keeps the little unsupported space around the glottis from collapsing and stopping air flow.

sun down syndrome is common with all people....not just PDers. if a normally well person has the flu, they will start to feel worse around sundown. Pediatricians use this phrase regularly, wanting you to call them in the am to get an accurate pic of what is happening instead of when the syndrome sets in and the kids start to feel punk. i always called it my 'sinking spell' and i don't even have PD. poor PDers always get everything worse than other folks so they would probably feel SS more.
