Sustained Aerobic Exercise the Best Bet for Hippocampal Neurogenesis

Of three types of physical exercise (strength/resistance, HIT, and sustained aerobic), sustained aerobic exercise appears to be the best. "Researchers at the University of Jyväskylä studied the effects of sustained running exercise, HIT and resistance training on adult hippocampal neurogenesis in adult male rats... only sustained aerobic exercise improved hippocampal neurogenesis in adult animals."

Thanks for this metacognito

It's interesting to see a study out of Finland. Following links I found a lot of references to exercise studies. It seems we still have a way to go to fully understand the effect of exercise and what exercises are the most beneficial.

Eg 2015

Long-Term Mild, rather than Intense, Exercise Enhances Adult Hippocampal Neurogenesis and Greatly Changes the Transcriptomic Profile of the Hippocampus.

How do we make sense of it all!

True, it kind of corresponds with typical supplement reports - what's good for you one day, is bad for you the next. It'll take a few more trials (and errors) before a semi-reliable consensus starts to form. In the meantime I'll just stick with what I'm doing, cheers :)
