Fluctuations in blood pressure

I know it has been well established that Parkinson's patients often experience fluctuations in BP.

Does anyone know:

Is the cause Parkinson’s disease or the medications?

My vote for the cause of blood pressure changes in PD patients is the disease.

After developing rather serious heart problems some years ago, involving high blood pressure, a "cabbage" (coronary artery bypass graft), numerous stints and a rather gloomy prognosis, I was prescribed two different medications to lower blood pressure. (don't remember the names). Then, in November, 2010, I was diagnosed with PD and have been taking Sinemet ever since. As the Parkinson's progressed, the symptoms of heart problems lessened. including the high blood pressure. I was able to discontinue the two medications I had been taking for it. My neuro was pleased and agreed that the disease does sometimes improve heart problems and hypertension. I am not overjoyed to have Parkinson's but, in this case the trade-off has left me, (so far), to the good.

Well my husband, has come off his BP meds,

Since he had these problems, with his blood pressure,

Ok sitting down . But plummets when he's standing..

But does vary with Parkimsons

It's the disease not the meds. I collapsed before I had my diagnosis and the neuro said it was due to low blood pressure.

this is my problems and i have to be my own detektiv.

Get a new neuro....orthostatc bp is common with PD and yr doc should have check that as a matter of course. Sitting and standing BP reading.

I've seen 5 neuro s in 2 different countries. Never been asked about BP so your experience is not strange.

hi i had, high `bp

b4 ]beign dxd with PSPm abs now take a daily pill for it

but my BP does seem to fluctuate still and idont knwo what is cusign the fluctuations

I had low blood pressure that caused me to pass out. It was caused by an anti depressant drug. I think both the drug and PD can contribute to blood pressure change.

Many PD meds are known to reduce blood pressure. A friend of mine was put on Apomorphine but after a couple of good weeks his BP dropped so far he had to come off it. My own BP dropped to 91/63, whether from meds or PD itself I don't know but suspect the meds. (Madopar). I have always had a healthy low BP of around 110/72 until recently, and now take Fludrocortisone which has brought me back to previous levels, and stopped most of my dizzy spells.

hubby had normal BP prior to diagnosis of PD. He suffered from orthostatic hypotension which is a symptom of PD.

Parkinson causes an alteration to the autonomic nervous system and therefore affects most of what is affected by that system. Which comes first is a ?

My Blood pressure is the lowest (50/90 average) approx one hr after my morning

6 am medication hit, consisting of 6 different kind of PD med. and there after slowly increasing back to my normal. I'm aware of it and make sure I'm save, in case I would faint.

I am 67 diagnosed with PD 9 yrs ago. Apart from my PD, I am fit and healthy, working physically 40 hours plus a week, as well I play 18 holes of golf most Saturdays . In my experience managing my PD, the most important thing is the accurate timing of taking my medications and food intake. As well as understanding the effect of what the different medication have, making adjustments accordingly. I take a variety of pills from 2.5 to 4 hrs apart. If I forget taking my medication and my timing is out I suffer for the rest of the day from wearing off and side affects from taking my med.

My advice: Gain as much knowledge re PD as you can and work out with your Doctor what's best for you

We all know PD is a cruel and debilitating disease, but for my self I believe, is trying to live a normal as possible live and to focus on living and not on PD.

I have always had very low blood pressure, even as a child and teen, I would get light headed & at times pass out. I also remember always having ongoing issues with constipation, even as a child. I often wonder if these were signs that I was predestined for PD. Obviously, both issues have only worsened with PD and meds.

I experience bp fluctuation very often. I had complained to my neurologist and doctor several times but was not given satisfactory answer. I read about it extensively and found that it is orthostatic hypotension which most probably caused by SINAMET. If you are having this problem you must take extreme care while taking in the shower because the bp drops by 10 to 15 points while you bath or immediately after bath.

I was wondering the same thing. My daughter has had low blood pressure for a while and today it’s been high. Can the carb/levodopa cause this?
