I'm supposed to have surgery next week. Has anyone had an issue with anesthesia?

After my wife's eye surgery, the insurance paid for surgery but denied the anesthesia.

Make sure the anesthesiologist knows you have Parkinson's. Many anesthetic agents can cause issues. Do you have an Aware in Care kit? It has a list of meds and agents to avoid. Is it outpatient or will you be in the hospital for awhile? My husband reacted very poorly to anesthesia. It didn't help that he didn't get his meds as prescribed either.

Ask to speak to the anesthesiologist prior to surgery so you can educated him/her.

it is outpatient surgery! Thanks for the input, I will definitely do those things.

At one point I was on Azilect . At this time my Neurologist was concerned that he be read in to any anticipated surgery. He indicated there was a problem. As it turned out, was not on it for long during which I had no surgery.

MAO inhibitors like Azilect and selegine (spell) can be deadly with a general anesthetic. Let your doctor and anesthesiologist know if you are taking one of these.

My blood pressure was low prior to PD, now it's extremely low. During a routine colostomy 5 years ago, my blood pressure dropped dangerously low when they started administering anesthetic, so they had to discontinue and continue the procedure without. I worry about this issue should I need surgery in the future. Would like to know more about the "Aware in Care" kit and how to get it.
