I am scheduled for DBS surgery in August. Just wondering if it improved facial masks on any of you that have had the surgery.

Thanks in advance for your response

I am not sure about the "mask" face aspect but it definitely helped with my freezing, tremor, and mobility. Please keep me posted on how you do! I had it doe in 2004 and 2005 and I would do it all over again.

DBS Gave me back my life 3 yrs ago this week of April. Don't worry about the what if's take it day by day, You will have ups & downs, just try not to expect to much to fast, this is the worst part, You will have what is called a honeymoon time where you may not need meds or any assistance = the Parkinsons seems to have disappeared but it does come back slowly, For me not to shake was a wonderful feeling, Good luck and God bless. Let us know how it all comes out.

DBS was the best thing I've done for myself in years!! It not only got rid of the mask but I said bye bye to dyskinesia, balance problems, a droopy eyelid, gait problems, freezing, and the list goes on. I've had Parkinson's for 20 years.

I'm on the waiting list. Does anyone have anything bad to say about DBS?All I read about is good things or is the bad outcome not making it out of theatre! LOL cos that's the only way.

So you want to hear the bad stuff about DBS, well yes there is always something however look to the good because it will give you your life back. Maybe not as fast you'd like. For me the bad was the surgery, I was not prepared in my mind for what 9 hrs of wide awake surgery would be, Yes I had lots of preparation ahead of time but never really understood the scope of it all. Then the find the proper numbers for the implanted feeds to work their best took awhile . My doctors are 2-1/2 hrs away so it was always a huge day trip for me to find a driver, etc. I was not prepare for how long things took to do, more education on the actual what happens after the surgery is needed, just don't expect to much to fast. That is my best advice.

It's been 3 yrs this week of April and I would do it all again it gave me my life back. And that was worth it all!

I can only speak for my husband who had the op at French in Bristol in 2005. His tremor was greatly improved. Unfortunately his walking was badly affected. He has to switch himself off if we need to walk a distance and can't walk far. Airports can be a nightmare so we now have to have special assistance.
