Hi guys,

I'm looking for a home carer for my grandmother, we are certainly not eliglble for funded home care.

I really want someone who trylu loves taking care of elderly people with good refereces and great experience.

Maybe someone here is a caregiver?

Any agencies or websites you can reccomend?

Thanks,

John.

The best combination would be someone who as the appropriate training and comes to you via a private route. That being the case because going through an agency is going to cost you £20 per hour or maybe more. An agency will take probably a half of the fee even though the homer care ladies do most of the work.

The disadvantage with a private lady is coverage, i.e. some one to help your mum get up in the morning and someone (else?) to put her to bed plus a bath lady and someone to do a few jobs about the home, grass hedge cutting etc. plus someone to run around with the hoover. Could work out to be about 17 hours per week at whatever the hourly rate is

I am having to log in everytime I go to the next subject . Anyone else having the same problem .

Myself11 I often think about getting private carers in but like Pete so rightly says the cover is needed over many hours days and weeks . Because of this will need more carers to be there for sickness or holiday .

Not sure where you are , we are in UK .

We live in Wales and although not wealthy we are comfortable . I have two carers each time for my husband because of health and safely , he is hoisted . They only come morning and night and I am able to use the hoist myself even at the age of 77 .

Today we received the 97th carer in eighteen months . I am sure it will make 100 by Christmas . How does this compare with others I wonder .

I consider we are very lucky that we only have to pay £55 weekly for the care , Most of the c areas are very nice obviously some better than others .

I cannot bite the bullet and find my own carers having such a lot to do myself it's another thing for me to worry about . . Hope you can find someone who fits your bill . good luck ..
