Depends on the drug. Odd question as every drug is different as is every person. Depends if it's short acting long acting . Amphetamine based? So many if buts and may be's

Hi Joe. Not being a doctor means that I cannot answer this question. I can only tell you about my experience in this matter. I have said in my book that I only ever took eldepryl for ten years and then came off it. I was shown a copy of my neurologist's records of my 1st two years after diagnosis. He states that I was put onto sinemet and symmetrel. I obviously came off those two meds when he put me onto eldepryl. I only became aware of this last month.

I was therefore able to come off sinemet twice in my life, in 1994 and 2002, and symmetrel once in 1994, without any trouble.

Good luck

John

Hi Joe- it takes a while to get off that patch. My neuro had me go off too fast and i had that bad reaction. Remember i told you about it? 2 week should be good. I think it took me quite a while before i felt better.

Although he has been taking them for the last six years I have never felt they improved him in any way . They increased the dose gradually and still nothing , it was then they added the patch , It is difficult to judge really because you don't know how much if any is the progression of the illness .

About 30 mins after taking the Sinemet O can see him slowing down , vacant and Dystonic stiffness jaw drops and difficulty coordinating the tongue . Then it's nearly time to take the next dose ,., There is , much improvement in the relaxed tremor, and although his drool is still dreadful he is not bothered at night with it collecting in his throat and choking m he also i

doing the sudden switch offs .

I had to get off the Neupro patch because I was so allergic to the adhesive on the patch. My doctor never said how to stop the patch and I went on Ropinirol the next day (2mg).

I now take 3mg.

I have episodes of difficulty breathing when my Sinemet wear off. Very difficult to breathe. My doctor doesn't think it's from the Sinemet. I went to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Florida and saw a neuro specialist there last month. The Doctor at Mayo increased my Sinemet to 2 tablets every 3 hours starting at 6 am. It had me very jumpy when it would wear off prior to the next dose and they told me to reduce the Sinemet to 1 1/2 and not go back to the 1 at each dose. You have to wean yourself off a lot of meds and this is one of them also. I also am on Amantadine 100mg, 1 twice a day. I would probably be doing fairly well if the Sinemet would work properly. I am convinced that that is the problem. Both doctors say it is probably anxiety which I feel it isn't. How come after the Sinemet kicks in I can breathe again??
