Constipation is one of those eternal problems with Parkinson's. Have you spoken to your medical team about this yet? That would be wise before embarking on buying laxatives or any meds because some don't do well with PD meds

Have you gone down the high fibre and plenty of caffeine free liquids route?

Have you tried using a low step (just like one buys for toddlers to stand on in the bathroom) to raise your feet up into a squatting position almost? You sit down first, then pull the step towards you and lift your feet on to it. You don't have to put any weight on it or balance, it is purely to get your feet higher and find a comfortable seated squatting position.

Here is a link to more information about the Squatty Potty. I'm not connected to the company and indeed I used a cheap plastic step bought in one of those 'poundland' type shops to try it out first.

Exercise is excellent for stimulating the bowel too.

My wife developed constipation problems, and the doctor recommended fiber tablets. She took

them daily and the problem improved significantly, without side effects. I don't have PD, but do

occasionally have constipation, so I took the same tablets and things improved considerably for

me to. Problem with my wife, she didn't eat cereal because she didn't like milk. Talk with your

doctor about fiber pills. And good luck.

Hi. Constipation is probably the most common problem experienced with Pd. There are several things you can do about it. The first is exercise. Walking helps the stomach muscles to move the stool through the intestines. Taking time to get your stomach to work at a regular time each day, is also a good practice. If you find that you know you need to defecate but are unable to do so, then you can, while sitting on the loo, try to massage the anus, with a wad of toilet paper, or better still, some vaseline on your fingers. You will find that the muscles around the anus tend to relax, as you push down with the stomach muscles, and you will be able to pass the stool quite easily. Don't rub toilet paper on the anus as it is very abrasive. Good luck
