After a year on a ketogenic diet (verified with both serum meter and ketostix) and no apparent benefit nor reduction of symptoms, yesterday I returned to normal diet. If there is noticeable decline, I may again go keto.

Hello RoyProp

I was surprised to see that you are giving up the Ketogenic diet. May I ask, what were the factors which you took into consideration to make this decision?

My diet can return to keto faster than symptoms. It is all consistent with my "research". I started keto with nothing to loose compared to what P may do to me over the years

Sounds like good news, I wonder what they are testing for to determine success or failure (probably cognitive skills)

I am getting excellent results from the ketogenic diet, in terms of reducing my tremor and improvement in my gait (I think better also). The only problem is that the serum ketones vary quite dramatically throughout the day, especially after eating and my tremor comes and goes according to serum ketones. I am able to achieve better results by spreading my protein consumption in a number smaller portions throughout the day and using ketone supplementation in the form of ketone salts (which absorb almost immediately) , coconut oil, and C-8 MCT oil. The devil is in the details, it requires considerable diligence to keep the tremor under control throughout the day.

It is actually quite amazing how responsive the tremor is to serum ketones levels. It seems that quite a few of those brain cells were actually rendered dormant by the disease and are waking up in the presence of ketones. Of course stress brings the tremor out so there are still quite a few cells not participating.
