Not too long ago I was in Las Vegas. I was entering the woman's restroom and was flying all over the place my arms were flying and I was dancing to the beat of Parkinsons. I know I frightened most everyone in the place. I got into a stall and tried to get my pant snap open and my zipper down. I was \hitting each side of the stall and banging loudly. I am sure the people in the room thought I was wresting someone in there. Then I tried to put a sear cover on and the paper flew out of my hand and up into the air. . After I finished I struggled again with my snaps and zipper. my arm caught my wig and moved it around. I wasn't able to get my belt hooked in the correct hole. I opened the stall door and shocked everyone. There I stood with my wig twisted , , my zipper down,and my shirt hanging out. I .looked like I had just been in a brawl. So I tried to not call attention to myself and walked over the sink.. Th ere was a faucet that you had to put your hand under and wave it to get the water to come out.. You can just imagine how funny I looked shaking and trying to get water. The soap dispenser wasn't very kind either. The paper dispenser was the finale. Once againi had to wave my hand in front of a machine. My flapping arms went wild as I did the dance of the Parkinson dance ot the towels. By now people were scared to death and leaving the restroom as soon as they saw me. I must have looked pretty silly.
The power of PD.! You can clear a restroom in less than 9 mins.!.

I have had some similar trips to the john but nothing so drastic as you. I found
Inhabitants of the rest room would give me an assist, when the saw my need. Buttons,
hooks, snaps and such things can really be a pain at sensitive times. (The grip on the zipper can evade a persons numb fingers for several minutes. It is best to have a
caregiver to go with you.
You aptly described it in a meaningful and amusing manner.
While this sounds bad, I smiled because before my DBS surgery I shook so hard and yes I could clear bathroom FAST. BUT I also had my left hand/ arm get stuck behind my back in my pants, then I would laugh so hard I shook worse, and be stuck! You have a good grip on your problem, Thanks for sharing Take care!
Take note those long lines in the woman's rooms can be avoided!!! Glad to hear you took it with a sense of humor. Hey maybe we could make a living renting out our services at airports by clearing out the woman's rooms for those who don't have time to wait in long lines!! ha,ha
it's so good to laugh at ourselves and the Pd while we're making the best of it. My grandson (now 17yr old) has always laid accross my lap for head and back scratches. Now with the tremors he gets really good fast scratches and and vibration massage from my lap. He loves it!! I'm going to have DBS soon so hopefully we'll go back to the regular back scratching!
Thank you for this. I had been feeling fed up and your post made me giggle. I do not mean in a nasty way, because what happened to you was not funny, but because of the way you wrote I could just imagine being one of the onlookers. Of course, on a more serious note, someone should have come to your aid. Parkinsons needs more publicity.
You have to laugh! I've had many circumstances like yours. Music makes me fly! It's crazy but it gets me going and the worst part is I'm not in time with the music. I look like a jerk.
You are brave. My symptoms are much less noticeable, yet I am becoming afraid to go places, especially by myself. I utilize my "windows of opportunity" to run or should I say walk my necessary errands. I tend to forget that if I squat down to get something off a lower shelf in the store, that getting back up is a real challenge. Sometimes I just stay there pretending to look at things and pray for strength in my legs. I have recently started having more balance issues, along with light headedness. My biggest fear is breaking bones or hitting my head if I tip over, so far only bruises. I hate that my face is less and less a reflection of my feelings and emotions. I used to be outgoing and love adventure...this is an adventure alright. I try to look for the good in every day and it is there, but find that my home is my safe haven and my dog my best friend and have no desire to leave either.
I don't have the shakes but I sometimes freeze completely. When I'm out with friends they will come looking for me and the first question they ask is, "Have you done?". They always sound relieved when I say yes I just need help in doing my cloths up and starting to move. Even friends have their limitations. I must admit that I have also frozen before the event and wet myself, but again I may be wet but I've done.
once several years ago I was in the ladies room and heard a crash from the handicapped stall. the door was not latched so I opened it a peep and asked if I could help, since the woman from the wheelchair was on the floor. she glared at me and told me to get out. it took her a very long and noisy time to make it back into her chair.
