Every Medicaation that I have tried have had side affects some severe Ryan12

I am unable to attribute any problems of my PD to being medication side effects. All my symptoms seem to be PD derived rather than drug induced. But this is a matter that is difficult to resolve without a large amount of concerted and disciplined effort. I am not willing just now to enter into such an undertaking.

I have had severe reaction from my first medication and no warnings on notes at the time but now there are warnings shown. You must check with doctor before taking.

Yes, my husband.

Azilect 1mg on and off for 6 years (off only because he needed anti depressants which were contra-indicated for a few months and then he went back on it once he had his mood under control.)

Requip XL 16mg built up over 4 years. He stopped it there because I was nagging him about how much time he spends on the computer and we didn't want it to develop into ICD or OCD. The ordinary doses of Requip 3 times a day left him feeling nauseus so we were pleased to find the XL version. In UK now they are much more careful to alert you and your carers to possible side effects like this.

Sinamet plus started a year ago. No signs of dyskinesia at this stage.

There is much talk about the side effects of medications and all I can is it might never happen! You wont know until you try and a watchful carer is a good thing sometimes.

Requip XL , Madopar and Amantadine with no side effects. Tried Sinemet but they made me feel worse and my tremor got worse !! Apart from that - all good

Hello,

i'm new in PD, the GP misdiagnosed, I took sinemet and Azilect and as I got a lot of dizziness, the Neuro changed for Requip, I had to quit, no side effect but I feel very bad I lost what I won with Sinemet, I talked to the Pharmacist and she, I don't have side effect but dehydrated, I have to drink 8 glasses of water per day, as soon as I stop Requip my balance comes back. I see the Neuro on Monday

I take Stalevo and Mirapex. I have problems of dry mouth and insomnia which I assume is a side effect of these drugs.

Tried Requip and was very ill, am now on amantadine, So far so good apart from dry mouth...my consultant thinks amantadine is old fashioned but I disagree. I also supplement this with mucuna pills. No side effects.

I have taken Sinemet Plus, Amantadine, Azilect and Requip XL for 5 years and the only side effects are a dry mouth

I was interested in the comment about Azilect being contra indicated with Azilect - I was told this too (it is a fact) but was also told that the risk (of Serotonin syndrome) was pretty small and thus far have not experienced any (might just be lucky??)

I also agree with the post about Amantadine being old fashioned - it very well might be but I think it is a great drug

I am on Requip 1 mg 3 times a day and three months ago Sinimet was added one tablet three times a day also. This was

Supposedly for balance. Since on it balance is worse. Does anyone out there have any

Problems. When Sinimet was added . The tremors have not increased or decreased

But my balance is horrible. Polyanna007

Polyanna007,

When I first started getting gait problems I wrongly attributed this to problems with balance. I spoke to my specialist PD nurse who said there i s no PD treatment that will tackle balance problems. For whatever reason there was at the time I was given 62.5mg of Madopar probably 2 times per day. I was unable to tell the difference between taking and not taking a dose. The dose was doubled and within an hour the effect was profound. At that time I was in ASDA and supermarkets are the worst places for gait problems due to all the constant changing direction and speed of the trolleys

Anyway, I found I was moving about normally dodging the trolleys like a normal person. I was accompanied by my wife who did the wheeling about of our trolley.

Such a relief from fear of falling and movement without forward planning, It was an enormous change to my staggering stooped uncertain movements. I could relax.

The only problem is getting the timing of doses right. There is a bit of a problem in that it takes an hour before the effect is really noticeable and the effect wears off sooner than I would like. In between doses there are periods where again I have to get about by holding onto things for fear of falling.

Madopar is functionally the same as Sinemet in that the main active reagent is Levodopa.

Dear Pete-1

Ever so many thanks for all your input. Am

Going to Dr tomorrow and see his take on what is happening and see what he thinks. I am very frustrated at being able to do but constant stumbling and slow gait.

Again many thanks for

The reply.

I wish you well with your. Dr. appointment tomorrow. I must say that my experience with Levodpa is not universal.

PD is difficult to diagnose sometimes. One way of distinguishing ordinary PD from other PD like ailments can be seen by a poor response Levodopa. That is other Parkinsonism (e.g. MSA, PSP CBD) diseases should be considered.when administering Levodopa with no or very little symptom improvement.

Dear Pete-1

Take sinemet 2 tabs 3 to 4 times a day and have no issues if taken on time--no tremors, no needfor ambulation devices unless walking greater distances with a lot of people around. Add to day meds at bedtime take 1 sinement extended release and requip xl 8 mg. Occasionally am bothered with severe left foot cramps at night and sleep better in recliner thana bed.

I've been on Sinemet Plus 25/100, 4 times a day at 4hr intervals for more than 2 years. My main PD symptom has always been tremor (along with more minor symptoms) and I don't think Sinemet claims to deal with that. However, since taking the drug, I now experience some tremor in my left arm/hand, as well as quite a lot in my right; I think Sinemet may be the cause, but I've no real proof. I'm not convinced it is of much benefit to me.

Went to Dr as said I would and

Was better prepared to ask

Pertinent questions

Thanks to the thread. Bottom line. D/C the Sinimet, not for me

And ordered PT therapy for walking. Balance and gait training

He feels this will benefit me more

Than adding medication. Still on

Requip one mg 3x daily

I have only recently been diagnosed with PD and I am taking Levadopa and it has been like a miracle for me, the changes in my gait especially and no falling over etc

My husband had DBS and that requires no medicine. However, he supplements the machine with a low dosage of levadopa

I have been on sinemet for approximately 18 months, and on selegiline for about 1 year now. I do yoga twice a week and exercise (cardio, weight lifting) at least 3 times a week(gym) plus I walk everyday at home. I went to see my doctor last week , and he's shocked to see how much I have improved. The o/t and the p/t have also see great improvement in all areas. I don't have side effects with my medications.i take 2 sine met daily and 2 selegiline daily. Also I cut my sine met in 4 . So instead of one twice a day I take 1/2 four times a day. I'm also a very spiritual person. So I think every thing works for me. I'm also a very positive person.
