It is probably early yet. It takes effect over a period of time. Also the quantity makes a difference. You will need to increase the amount you take gradually. Hope it will help you.

I found no difference either.

The reported results are from taking 4 to 8 tablespoons per day. Also the results are from cold pressed, organic, virgin coconut oil. Browse the web site for Tropical Traditions. They have excellent research on the different types of processes used to produce pure oil. My friend is seeing excellent results with 4 tablespoons per day of their gold standard product.

I've been using coconut oil for several months now with no improvement. I think it is a myth.

in reply to afflyerman

Without a healthy digestive system the coconut oil can't be broken down, antibiotics are the main

problem with this causing candida albicans overgrowth, you can heal the gut by eating raw foods,

also Psyllium husk capsules can help, they are a good source of fiber. taking a Probiotics supplement, drinking plenty of filtered water to help clean the system, Colloidal silver which is a natural antibiotic to kill the fungus in the gut, without killing the good flora in your digestive system.

Hope this helps.

May I ask how much you are taking ?

It may take years for CO to complete it's magic, everyone will be different and the extent of recovery will be different. I suspect the sooner you start treating your body the easier and greater the recovery.

6 teaspoons daily is an excellent start but several "experts" suggest a goal of 6 tablespoons daily. You must do this gradually and stop when you get any signs of indigestion. The goal is to elevate the ketone level in your blood to wake up dormant mitochondria in your brain (the hypothesis). Some people achieve this goal with fewer than 6TBS daily, others require more. As others have said, take it very slow in regard to increasing your dosage, let time be your friend and be patient. Most improvements happen gradually and it is sometimes easy to take them for granted. If you don't think there is any improvement then start slowly decreasing the dosage to see if any of your symptoms feel worse.

I also suggest you get your blood work done (HDL, LDL, Triglycerides) after 2 months to ensure you are not harming yourself with a high fat diet. Ideally you should have your blood work done before you start CO diet, so you know if the CO is moving your blood work in a healthy direction.

We are all learning, so feel free to ask for help. We are developing a great support community as our collective experience grows.

I have been adding 4 -6 tablespoons per day to my diet.

Wow, at 4-6 TBS for several months, you should be seeing something at that rate. In my case a`lot of non-Parkinson's improvements happen first:

(1) major improvement in blood work (HDL, LDL, Triglycerides)

(2) improvement in eyesight

(3) more positive mood

(4) rapid recovery from cold

(5) clear headed thinking (no longer foggy)

Perhaps my first question should be, are you using a true TBS (15ml) to measure your oil ?

Another suggestion is to slowly decrease your dosage and see if something gets worse.

all this alternative medical advice makes me leery. I understand that you might need some kind of unguent for a dry mouth but no one mentions any solid studies that I know of. Sorry, but I'm a skeptic.

They say that Rome was not built in a day. In fact, I think they are still busy building it. What do you expect? Give it a few months to manifest its efects!

The Number One thing you can do right now without any

medical intervention is a major change in your Diet,

giving the body what it needs to repair.

There are some of us who have to find our own solutions

which doesn't include more drugs with side effects and

even more false dawns when we have to change to

another medication hoping this might be the one.

Coconut Oil treatment for PD is not a shot in the dark or an act of desperation. It is a natural follow-on to successful treatment of Alzheimer's symptoms by Dr. Mary Newport. In that realm, there are a couple of hundred successful treatments. ALthought she has restricted her efforts to Alzheimers, she reports 19 cases where PD patients have reported significant improvements to her. She encourages the study we describe in the following discussion.

Most people getting significant benefits are taking 4+ T/day. I got noticeable improvement in a couple of days when I started at 2T. I was already taking balanced supplements (omega 3, coq10, multi-vitamin, extra D and B6). I may be one of the fortunate, or maybe the whole picture is required. Right now I am taking 8T/day and thinking of increasing to 10. My improvement is being tracked and certified by three doctors:

Primary care (whose mother had PD, he has special interest). monitors my blood work regularly (healthy blood, significant increase in HDL all LDL in large globules), measurably improved flexibility, balance, facial expression),

Osteopath: measurably improve total body flexibility,

Movement Disorders Specialist at a major US clinic: updrs improved 25% this past year, "Keep doing what you are doing, it works for you, not need to change your minimal meds."

ALL three are encouraging my personal Data Collection and Analysis effort "Non-clinical Trials"

healthunlocked.com/parkinso...

as a valid data collection effort that could provide encouragement for Clinical Trials.

I am a professional scientist (U. Colo, Boulder, NCAR, MIT/LL) who has served on a National Academy of Science panel. I am fully qualified to conduct a data collection and analysis study. It is important to have a sufficient number of participants and to have people with disappointing results as well as those who seem to benefit. For privacy reasons, our project communications are password protected.

We are monitoring the evolution of 25 PD symptoms in people who ingest 4+ T of Coconut oil per day. We ask that participants fill out a questionnaire each quarter. We understand that you must work up to 4+T per day gradually, so it is permissible to be taking less if you are working towards that level. Or, we also would like to have some participants who are willing to fill out the forms but who are taking a lesser dose or no coconut oil and could be considered as controls. The study is designed so that participation does not require much effort, about 15 minutes every three months.

There are different physiologies, different life-styles, and possibly different ramifications to PD. A broad participation may help us to distinguish differences that matter. Such information would be valuable for designing traditional clinical trials. We can all do our part. PLEASE PARTICIPATE!
