I've been doing the CO for about a month no dramatic improvement, will continue with your encouragement

How much are you taking ? The books "Stop Alzheimer's Now" and "What if there was a Cure" both recommend at least 6 TBS per day, taken with meals.

Dose matters, but if you increase too quickly, some have digestive problems. I do better with Pure (no flavor) than with Virgin/Organic. Dr Newport reports that 19 PWP have benefited. No count on how many have not. That is one motivation for my study.

Godspeed!

I have been trying to take it every day but the taste just makes me gip.

I usually have a stomach like a dustbin (it will take anything) but not this stuff.

if it was available in capsules it might be OK

For me, I mostly stay away from the flavored (Organic). I get PURE LouAna at Walmart, it is oily but tasteless to me. I usually mix it in a drink with my mini-blender. Some ideas in a minute. Dr Newport likes to put it in oatmeal (any hot cereal). My ideas:

1. Hot Coffee - heat 1 c skim milk in the mirowave, add good quality instant coffee and 2T Pure CO, blend until frothy

2. Cool Berry drink - Put 2T CO in 1/4 c Hot water. Add to 1c cold juice drink and blend immediately to frothy.

3. Stir 2T CO into 1/4c organic peanut butter (Smuckers is OK) Kept at room temperature, this will spread easily onto WW bread or celery

Caution:: a lot of Peanut Butter has hydrogenated oil BAD!!

4. If you are having brown rice for dinner, stir it into the rice.

5. 2T CO and 1 c warm milk before bed. Blend to frothy.

You will want to adjust your dose to suit your situation.

Where did you get the mini blender?

fwes profile image
fwes in reply to mikael

In the US: any big box store. Amazon. If you have 220v power, then you may need to get a converter. Need at least a few hundred watt capacity

I believe you live somewhere in Europe but I'm don't recall which country. I was in Germany last week and check out the Galleria. They had a mini blender made by Phillips and a couple of small blenders (they call them stand mixers) everything in the price range 40-50 euros

Hope this helps,

Wes

I buy capsules for air travel. At 1g, there are 17 capsules per T. Lots of pills.

Living in U.S.A., you have access to "Fuel For Thought". Each serving is equivalent to ~ 3 TBS of coconut oil with far fewer calories. Comes in nice little plastic bottle. Excellent for travel or just plain convenience at home.

I will try it in Porridge and see Thankyou.

Thanks for the encouragement Fwes. Please can you remind us how long it took before you began to observe improvement. Also which specific PD symptoms have reduced for you? I've been taking it for a little over a month but so far only 3 teaspoons a day. I'll look forward to improvement when I work up to the higher dose you suggest.

Is that 8 tablespoons? That's a half cup. Could I cook with part of that and drink the rest? Will it help PD constipation?

fwes profile image
fwes in reply to PatV

Pat and Joanne,

8T = 8 tablespoons, a lot. I started at 2T and saw some results in a couple of days. First? Return of facial expression and quicker movements. A lotof detail in my first post. Cooking is fine so long as it gets into you and does not stay in the pan. Unfortunately, this site keeps aging thing off. SO I am putting an archhiven my personal site tending-the-iris.us/

You will also find info about my non-clinical trials. I will put another post here on that subject. I have never had a constipation problem so no personal data. I will post my personal itemized symptoms response on my web site:

before CO (Feb) with CO (July) and with CO (Oct). The form has 25 symptoms.

I am a scientist: I want to know. Anyone who has tried CO at a level of 2+T/day and for at least one month: If CO has not helped you, please let me know about that. I want all of the facts.

[ how much, howlong, helped: a little, none, got worse, whatever you think is relevant]

I'm just worried that it will increase my dyskinesia. 2 TBS at lunch time and I'm rocking all over the place. A little freezing would be welcome :P

Pat,

obviously you will make your own dose decisions but it sounds to me like you are being a bit aggressive. Why don't you try cutting back to 1T twice a day and see how that works for you. In the software world we call this establishing a "island of certainty". Once you find a dose level that is comfortable for you, you may think of adding a bit more if there symptoms you want to treat. No one that I have talked to has had a serious problem with dyskinesia, so you and good luck to be the first guinea pig.

Right now Dr. Newport reports that there are nineteen PWP's who have been helped by coconut oil. I think that only the successes report to her since she is an active in the PD department (Alzheimer's and her husband give her more than enough to do) if nineteen and then helped and hundreds of tried and dropped out with no report anyone then that would be very discouraging. If nineteen have been health in nineteen have dropped out with no report, I would find this moderately encouraging. But the data are lacking. So my question is to get reports from as many people are willing to share their experience and tried to start to establish a database.

Best of luck to you as you try to find something that helps please keep in touch

fwes,

I've been taking coconut oil for about 5 weeks. I started with 1/2 tablespoon twice a day and have built up to 4 tablespoons at the present time. I mix the coconut oil with hot water and then add apple juice. I've experienced some improvement in my digestion system and I feel like I'm sleeping better. I've had PD for a little more then 15 years. Do you think there is still hope for me? Also, should I be taking it more often? Thanks for your help.

satwar profile image
satwar in reply to maryalice

I was diagnosed 13 years ago and have had great success with coconut oil. I also had fears that the damage might be too extensive. Everyone is different but all my symptoms are slowly fading away, so there is definitely hope.

Four TBS is good and it sounds like you're getting improvements, but at least 6 TBS is recommended. I'm personally at 10-12 TBS, after four months.

I feel the therapeutic effects wear off after 3-4 hours, so spreading dosages across the day works better.

Thanks for your help. It was very encouraging.

Mary Alice, first things first: is there any hope for you?

I sense fire in the belly! There is HOPE!

I'm not a doctor so I really can't prescribe dosage or anything else but there's so little research on coconut oil that most the doctors would not know what to prescribe. I think what most of us do,if we feel like we are getting some benefit is try little more and see how that goes. Dr. Mary Newport suggest that you keep increasing until you cause yourself to have diarrhea. I haven't gone that route I take 2 tablespoons with each meal and 2 tablespoons before bed. When I started the two evening tablespoons I started to sleep much better. Part of dose is weight related. I weight 185 lbs.

Have you heard about the non-clinical trials. You can read about it in an old post here under RESEARCH or at my website tending-the-iris.us/

I'd love for you to participate.

Is there any data on using the oil as a lotion? This would be helpful for those who don't like the taste. I will start tomorrow on the 1 teaspoon three times a day and increase if tolerated. I will stay with the 1-teaspoon three times a day for 3 days and start to increase at that point. Thanks for the info!

I know of no studies, other than my own, which even tries to understand the benefit of larger oral doses. The book Coconut Cures alludes to benefits (beyond smooth skin!) from applyiing it topically. I have no idea how to measure a "large topical dose".

In one of my previous responses I list some ways that I conceal the CO. Mary Newport gives some ideas in her book. I use LouANA Pure CO from Walmart (like Virgin, but with the flavor filtered out).

It is tasteless, but oily of course. By taste, do you mean flavor or texture?

It is something to put up with, but for me its better than stumbling around, blank face, freezing episodes, and aching all the time.

Hi alexandria12,

If you live in the USA and don't like the coconut oil taste, you can get a therapeutic dosage from a product called "Fuel for Thought". Very convenient but a bit pricey and calories are lower than straight coconut oil.
