Has anyone had the kind of speech problem that I have? When I get up in the morning I can speak okay.

But as the day goes on, I lose my ability to speak. Around 11AM I begin to stammer. Between 2 - 9 pm I have a very severe stuttering problem and cannot get words out of my mouth at all. Around 8:30 PM, my voice starts to come back, and by 9PM my voice is back. Usually by that time I am very tired. I have had LSVT, but I cannot say it has helped. I feel my vocal cords are getting weak from lack of use, so I do practice my speech exercises - but not as often as I should.

It could be selective hearing at the root of it. :-)

seems to me that you have pure akenesia, I have the same problems.i fall over a lot , have no tremor , speaking is difficult , and the freezing of gait is becoming much worse .none of the dopamine drugs do anything so I am not taking any drugs for this at the moment. They still call what I have atypical parkinsons is anyone else in the same situation.

Hi Eileen9,

Very similar to what I experience most every day, except it is not so much stuttering or stammering (even though some days I do experience either of those) but rather it is most difficult is to speak anywhere clearly or loudly enough to be heard. I to have done the LSVT and one other style of voice therapy, and found them both rather ineffective for me similarly as you described above. This is frustrating for me and anyone else with whom I try to communicate. This typically is most problematic on telephone calls...to the point of trying to avoid speaking on the phone in the afternoon and evening...not always easy to do. (Have any of you ever seen a cell phone that either has very loud or adjustable outgoing volume?)

Best wishes,

Steve

I have problems when I first get up until I've had coffee or water. Then it's a bit better but as you say the later in day it gets the worse my voice gets. The last few days I started my LSVT twice a day and trying to drink more water too. Good luck to all of us.

Same problem! Better when doing lsvt. Problem is here in paris people say bonjour and by the time ive swallowed my saliva to reply theyve gone! I have to rely on talking to myself, reading aloud and skype...facial exercises and comedy tapes. Good luck.

Forgot about the saliva. I've had the same problem when someone says "good morning" they are gone before I can respond. :-(

Drinking lots of water helps greatly. The problem is; it is hard to remember to drink water all day long. I found it helpful to drink a cup of water after each visit to the bathroom. And always drink water with food and medications.

Thank you. I will give it a try.

I found that talking in a high funny voice was helpful at times of extreme trouble. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it helped me to get started when I couldn't get words formed.

I really think it's the med. I can swallow and speak fine before and after med wears off. As the sinemet works i become worse. What do you do?
