Have you asked a specialist yet and did they help at all? Sometimes it is a sign that your meds need altering.

I get my PD treatment from Mayo Clinic.I did not have a referral. I contacted them directly and they gave me an appointment.

keep asking for a referral and you need something different done with your medicine. you shouldn't have to be in so much pain. you might always have some a times but they should be able to control some f the cramping issues

Hello,

Another possibility is that you may be severely deficient in magnesium an essential mineral which up to 80% of the population in western countries are. I would suggest yo take magnesium citrate at the recommended dose for several weeks.

Cramps are known as dystonia . It's a condition on its own and associated with Parkinson's and more so in young onset. Can be relieved with using maidipar dispersible dissolved in water or orange juice. Usually 62.5mg . Other pwp use apomorphine pen jets in the uk. Any ldopa medication can help here rather than agonists

Ask your doc about gabapentin also known as neurontin. It is perfect for your painful

cramps. Best of luck.

I also get muscle cramping, mainly calves and feet. I find that stretching helps more than anything I have tried. They cramp more with exercise, I have had a cramp in my calf muscle that lasted for days even with stretching.

As suggested, electrolyte imbalance can also affect cramping, being a nurse, I would suggest having blood test run before starting certain supplements. It did happen that I was low on potassium, but too much is also harmful. Best to first have it checked.

Your primary care Dr. may be more willing to do a blood check than your neuro, my neuro just attributes everything that can be a PD symptom to the PD.

My neuro recommended potassium and quinine. That equals a banana in the morning and a gin and tonic at night. (Tonic contains quinine.) I have two.

I have cramps so bad in my feet they feel like claws all balled up; hard to walk. Only got 1 cramp in my hand but it was extremely painful - I eat bananas every day bu doesn't help much. Sorry I'm of no help but you're not alone.

Lay face down on floor. Have your significant other stand over you and massage back of your legs (thigh muscles and calf muscles) with his/her foot. Tell them not to be shy; make it a good strong massage. Feels great and really helps with cramps.
