i was getting that way, so i experimented with cutlery, and found the soupspoon and a fork the best. the dessert spoon is too narrow at the mouth end.

It sounds as though a visit to a speech therapist may be the next step. They deal with all sorts of difficulties to do with the mouth and swallowing, not just speech. They should be able to give to a good assessment and plan a course of therapy to suit your needs.

Google Lee Silverman Voice Training to see what just the speaking aspect of Speech therapy can do for you. Way beyond that is the need to eat well and safely. It sounds like you might be becoming quite embarrassed and isolated. There is still plenty you can do for yourself but you might need this help initially.

yes a smaller spoon and for, . also lighter, I have wrapped rubber bands around the handles for my husband which help the grip .

He finds singing and mouth exercises help in the short time .

AND A BIB LOL

I too have problems keeping the food on my fork or spoon and have to use the other hand to try and hold my dominant hand steady enough to get the food in my mouth. The tremor seems to be getting worse and has started affecting my other side too.

Ii find swopping knife and fork. Around helps or holding the knife like a pen. Spoon i just turn it round to face my mouth and bring it up higher, think doing the ar exercises help trying to swallow more often. Keep trying. I sing the alphabet etc,,speech therapist important. Find posture good for not dribbling..keep hed up and neck exercises.

I empathise with you all here. I too am a messy eater and I find I am cramming food into my mouth - which only exacerbates the situation especially when I am eating cake with a cup of tea - there cake crumbs all round the lip of the cup. I also have problems with scraps of food remaining in my mouth - only to become an accompaniment to my speaking!!!

I get regular Speech Therapy which helps my speech enormously - when I am in the "protect ted" environment of Speech Therapy classes and the social hour or so we have with the final year Speech Therapy students when I can speak slowly, clearly with Pauses before important words. When I leave the university premises, however, stress in social encounters makes me unable to put these practises in place

I think that the Slowly does it for Speech should also help when we are eating - but we need to concentrate to do so and we just have to accept that we will just have to keep on top of it

By the by, I am more excited than I have been for a long time on Research - particularly that going on with alpha-synuclein which is a protein that6 is toxic to our brains The current research going on is about "killing off" (my words, not very scientific but how I like to think of it)this protein which, if successful could halt the progress of the disease

A positive ending to my post wouldn't you say?
