I’m sorry you are going through all this like I am! It’s so frustrating! Has your dr put you on Pancreatic Enzymes? I have also lost tons of weight and Been hospitalized! The pancreatic enzymes will help so you can eat and not continue to lose weight! The pancreatic enzymes have helped me to eat before I couldn’t eat at all with my chronic pancreatitis with EPI! I am still so thin and continue to lose weight! I have a appt with a dietitian in a few months! The enzymes have helped me a little with the pain from eating! My Gi dr doesn’t understand chronic pancreatitis with EPI so I am going to get second opinion!

Some insurance companies only allow certain brands. There are some resources on pancreatic enzymes on the Mission: Cure website here: mission-cure.org/for-patien...

Also, there is a new product that is supposed to provide nutrition for people with pancreatic insufficiency. It was designed for people with cystic fibrosis but the scientist who created it believes it should work for people with chronic pancreatitis too. It is called Encala: envarahealth.com/. If anyone's interested in trying I can connect you to the company.

I am not vouching for it though--it hasn't been tested on people with chronic pancreatitis yet. We would love to see that happen.

After my diagnosis, I lost 60 pounds in a few months. My skin was hanging off me. It’s vital to avoid all fats. This means any type of red meat, pork, fatty fish, butter, all oils, even olive oil. The only meat I eat is boneless, skinless chicken breast, and I trim any fat left before cooking. I eat a lot of lean cuisines. Most times I can tolerate oatmeal. I can’t tolerate dairy. However, you may able to. Just make sure it’s fat free milk. Beans are good source of protein. I stay under 15 grams of fat per day. I’m 10 years into this. My lowest weight was 116. I’ve managed to bring it up to between 122-124. I’ve maintained this weight for around 5 years. One thing I’ve learned is everyone is different. What works for you may not work for others. I suggest you checkout a Facebook page called “Beating Pancreatitis.” There is a wealth of common sense information there.

Hi, sorry to hear you’ve been so poorly recently!

Yes, fatty foods definitely don’t help….pastry triggered my pain and anything high in fat triggered the steathorrea(I never know how you spell that on) Like some of the others have said, prescribed enzymes are really important to help you absorb the nutrition that you need , which in turn will hopefully help you gain a little weight.

I don’t know the US system…I’m in U.K., but it looks like some of the others have offered you useful information regarding what insurance will cover etc.

It’s nice to meet you by the way! I’m Dee. Had CP for 23 years now…diagnosed aged 19.

Take care and I hope you can get some enzymes sorted soon!

Dee 😊
