Ani Lavator Rectal Spasms

I have had gut and bowel pain for the last 13 years. I had to quit work. Have been diagnosed with Collagenous Colitis, Gerd, IBS, and others. The last year I started having rectal spasms and pain below my belly button. Went through dozens of test and finally was told it was Pelvic Floor dysfunction. I have been given myriads of pain meds, laxatives, stool binders and ointments. Now my life revolves around the toilet. I am in almost constant pain. My bowel wants to deficate but all there is are pea size particles. I have not relief. I try not to go to the bathroom but my body says it has to, with no results. Of course when I take the laxatives then I have the runs. That does help some except my poor bum is raw. I used the Nitro ointment until I got raw from it also. After hours of research on the computer I have narrowed it down to the Ani Levator Spasms. Helps to know more what the cause is but doesn't give me any hope for relief in the future. I can get no more help from the Dr. I can't afford to pay for more tests. My marriage is falling apart because of my illness. I am 56. I saw a clinic for Brain to Pain to help stop the stress that is causing the constant spasms. Please, anyone, help! I was a healthy, happy wife with a good job. Now I am nothing.

Hi there, sad to hear of your struggles. But you're not nothing ok,Your health is not great.not your fault.I know where you're coming from where you feel the urge to go but there is nothing to get rid of.Ive had Crohn's for a longtime now, where you can be bunged up for quite a few days and then come the bouts of diarrhoea.I don't know if you have severe stomach cramps because of this but I don't know if you've tried laxido, dropping a sachet or two into a glass of water. If you get your GP to prescribe these to you, they should deffo ease the feeling of being bunged up and more regular without being extreme.I usually take 1 a day cos if I don't,my whole body just gets clogged up.If you can exercise any,at home just to be safe, even a few mins per day will help. Also, liquids, soups, pulses and the like will help. With the diarrhoea,I tend to stay indoors till it eases.never got on with imodium and the like.I hope it helps some and remember,if you're ill,it's not your fault ok.good luck with everything and I hope you get yourself in a better place.

Spasms such as you describe can be caused by contractions of any of the pelvic floor muscles, including the piriformis and ani levator. Massage can possibly help. Using a lubricated glove and gradually working on this area and eventually increasing pressure is probably worth a try. Perhaps your wife can help you with this or if agile enough you can try it yourself. Possibly you can find a urologist familiar with this technique. Best of luck in easing this painful condition.

Become a Vegan!I know, I know it’s drastic and I have no proof it will work for you. I can just suggest trying it because of my own experiences.

Shortly after my second child was born I started having IBS pain. I had all the tests to rule out serious causes and when nothing could be found it was put down to IBS.

A problem caused by stress! (Apparently). Since this year and all the stresses that I brought my symptoms have become more severe with rectal spasms and all over body pain, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, sciatica.

Again I had a thousand and one tests and they have decided it’s fibromyalgia (also all caused by stress). I’ve tried yoga and certainly the box breathing helps me through the pain and also gardening for some reason helps with my panic attacks.

Weirdly, I took part in Veganuary and about 2 weeks in all the pain stopped!!!

Then Feb hit and I started back on my normal diet and the pain is back.

So if you can, I would recommend trying being Vegan for a month. See if it helps.

Your poo gets looser to being with so stick with it while your body adjusts.

Just a suggestion. I had problems in that area which caused me to vomit as a result. Have been prescribed Domperidone (domperidone maleate). This is not a laxative. Rather a softener and pushes things along the bowels. For me it has been very helpful. Maybe discuss with your doctors? Could be same or similar could help you??

I've had ibs with diarrhea forever...with doctors advice, I increased fiber and added psyllium , a flavored mix with water every morning. It has decreased bad bowel movements, cramping and spasm. And someone else posted about being vegan, I am vegetarian (mostly) and it has helped to stay away from inflammatory foods, greasy food, etc....also great health benefits vegan/vegetarian. 🙂

Have you tried Valium suppositories? These help with spasms I have in my rectum and pelvis/vagina.

Hello, you're having a tough time at the moment and I feel for you. To cut a long story short a hospital consultant prescribed me Fybogel satchets which I take after my evening meal. You can get them on prescription or buy them over the counter from any Pharmacy. For your poor raw bum use Johnson's Baby Powder which is very effective. Thinking of you, let me know how you are getting on. X
