Chronic lower back pain, nerve pain flare up. Advice needed please!

Hello all. This is my first post even though I joined this great community over a year ago.

Just got home after an 8 hour stint at A&E. My GP sent me for an emergency MRI to rule out Cauda Equine Syndrome due to yet another episode of climbing the walls with back pain and a nerve pain flare up with an irtitated bladder to boot. Currently I am prescribed a cocktail of drugs for pain. These are - Pregablin, Methocarbamol, Co-Codamol and Naproxen, along with Sertraline and Propranolol for anxiety/depression.

It's got to the point where I'm taking the maximum daily dosage of all the meds, and according to my GP there is nothing more they can prescribe for my pain. Mindfulness, TENS and breathing techniques usually help but this time they've all failed to alleviate the tiniest bit of pain.

Kinda feeling like I can't go on much longer with the flare ups getting more frequent, more painful and lasting longer. This current one is at day 5.

Ok, so...would like to ask for some advice on what to try next. I know there is no miracle cure for flare ups, but at this moment in time I would try anything!

Thank you for reading.

Rosie

Hi

I'm so sorry you feel so rotten. Has your Dr referred you to pain management? The first 2 I was sent to were rubbish. The third one got me referred for an MRI on to a specialist who diagnosed me with degeneration of the facet joint, I'm due a steroid injection next week. I do have many conditions causing pain but if at least this one can be alleviated for a couple of months, it would be great. Please take care. Pm me if you need to. I had to take ill health retirement in 2018. My boss was right , she was and still is very supportive, it was the right decision but it took me a long time mentally to accept this but I have done now. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Did the MRI show any bulging or herniated discs? If so we're they pressing on a nerve if so you'll need either an injection or an operation. With the level of pain you're describing and the amount of meds ( I'm similar) you should have been referred to a pain clinic. If it's not a disc issue have you tried physiotherapy? Even without disc problem the pain clinic would probably give you a steroid injection to calm the nerve down....pester your GP

Good luck and I know what's it like, going through something similar....it takes over your entire life

Rosie:

I have had lower back/hip pain for almost 50 years, and as I get older (I'm 75) and my muscles get weaker the pain is more prevalent.

After 28 years of seeing chiropractors, in 2008, I started using "Trigger Point Therapy". Trigger points develop when muscles get fatigued (weak) and form a "knot" in the affected muscle that pulls on its tendons, pulling the bones out of their normal healthy positions and causing pain. This pain is sometimes incorrectly diagnosed as arthritis and even fibromyalgia and is the main cause of gout pain (I know, I have gout).

The glutius-medius and glutius-minimus muscles typically cause lower back (sacroiliac) pain. The muscles typically involved with hip pain are the pectineus, adductors-longus, adductors-brevis, and tensor fasciae lathe muscles may also contribute to lower back pain.

To remove the trigger points in these muscles you need to get the "Trigger Point Therapy Workbook, 3rd addition" to show you where to find these trigger points and deal with them. This can be found on line or at the following link:

amazon.com/Trigger-Point-Th...

This therapy has resolved my lower back and hip problems (and even gout attacks) when applied multiple times daily until the pain is gone. Unfortunately, due to unhealthy daily habits, these trigger points come back and need to be removed, but once you know what to do it is resolved quickly.

I have also found that taking 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate; 600 mg of sodium) in a glass of water daily has cleaned out my gouty joints making them suppler and less painful. It takes 3-6 months of this to clean them out.

I hope that this helps,

Dean

Hi Rosie, as a long term pain sufferer fifty years plus, had all the answers the NHS. and other health bodies could throw at me over the years, number of operation Five MRI over the years, scans ex-rays physio, pain management courses drug up to my eye balls on pain killers, al to no avail. That was until a couple of months ago whilst looking on Amazon. I notice this hundred per cent Hemp cream so I decided to give it a try after a couple of days I notice a difference , I use it on my lower back and hips just a small amount but well rub in, a jar lasted two months plus, when I went too re-order I notice the same type of product from the USA, same price but more quantity also I found it a better cream softer so spreads better, it is the one I sticking with. Try it and good luck. Hermes.

I recently had an MRI (usa resident here) for my left hip. In doing so they also did one on my pelvis and found I had bursitis, herniated and bulging discs as well as a hernia. It explains my back pain. As for my hip I tore it and it hurts like no other.

I've also found doing yoga for siatic pain helped or chiropractic care.
