Really? Yup

Recent Xrays on my spine to find cause of painful sij have thrown up something very interesting.

Yes there are gaps on both sides ( ligaments worn away)...significantly worse on one side. Hips show the same with gaps on same side as sij.

Lower spine showing extensive damage too.

Now add in a recent addition to the party....I also have scoliosis

The Xray clearly shows my spine curving....but the wrong way. GP was shocked. Osteopath was baffled. That is impossible she said. Never seen it before and totally unheard of. Like the earth being flat...it just can't be.

But my scoliosis is

Hello, dear Bananas, i feel with you! I knew that i had slight scoliosis and sciatica in lumbar spine....ok, but after reading the MRI report i flipped out.......soooo much wrong with my spine! Too many latin words describing my degenerate Spine! Then one Of the specialists, the Physical Therapy guy, said „thats not too bad for your age, everyones xray and MRI shows some spine abnormalities after a certain age. „ in other words, mostly the Mri reports read like a scary scenario happening.....relax.....i see its your xray, wait till you see the MRI! The doctors acting shocked and baffled would indicate its nothing too serious, otherwise theyd be quiet and ask for more tests. Good luck, let us know how u managed the pain!

By the way, my scoliosis is near the tail bone, therefore i have a dimple above my butt. Also very rare. I dont think 🤔 it has anything to do with my sciatica, thats from a pinched nerve from a bone spur and herniated disc and arthritis. Go figure. Im 82. physical therapy 3x week, stretching every day at home half hour to prevent a possible operation. I function ok without meds, only the occasional smallest dose Tramadol (Ultram) for pain on rainy days. No meds for me, not even vitamins.

Barbola is right many people have changes that are seen on MRIs that cause no or little symptoms. But because this is known there is a tendency to over state that, and many clinicians dismiss that there is anything really wrong until they have a good look at the scans and realise that one of their patients do have something wrong. Sometimes this will cause symptoms, sometimes it won't. But we are all different, there is no 'average' person. They don't exist.

I hope that this scan gives your clinicians pause for thought, and a clearer pathway to better quality of life for you in the future.

I didn't have any scans...just Xrays and there is clear damage to my sij, hip and spine.

The scoliosis which has been caused by this damage curves the wrong way!!. That was the point of my post!!! It defies medical science. It wasn't the GP and osteopath doubting any damage...just shocked at my spine defying any medical books!!

Sorry, I mixed up scans and x-rays that you had. It is the scans that drs look at and assume that everyone is the same, so it comes as a shock to them when someone isn't. you are not defying medical books, you have shown the doctors how limited and biased their knowledge is!

I saw my consultant yesterday and he was in full agreement...my spine is curved wrong way!!

He explained....

If you have a plank resting on 2 identical bricks it is level. Take one brick away and it will tip down towards that end. In my case it tips the other way!!!

Wow I feel for you. 🤭 It does sound very unusual. Are you in a lot of pain? I cannot comment on it as I suffer from continuous pain in my back and leg but due to other reasons. Hugs.

Strange as only hurts when I garden, sweep or walk!! It's the twisting which causes sij to rub together.

So...apart from walking my dogs, which I can only do when cooler, the recommended treatment is deckchair by the pool...sun...and planning!!! Plus a cuppa

Oh well that’s something. Hope it stays that way. And sitting by the pool sounds brilliant. Weather here has changed. Think I’ll come and live near you x

Yes it's the twisting that gets me too, do you get grinding every now and again too?

The daily pilates helps...but too much hurts more...its been a huge balancing act.

How amazing in one way to find that yours curves the other way!! How crazy our bodies are!

How did you find out there was something wrong before the scans??

And how do you cope with the sij pain, would love to know? Mines Been 2-3 years, and pain feels like it's spreading 😦
