I wouldn't get too excited just yet. First of all, I can't get a copy of the full paper either through my university sign-on or Open Athens, so I haven't been able to read the whole paper. But I do know that researchers have published several papers this year looking at this situation, where they have found Schwann cells involved in transmitting stimulus to the central nervous system. So it isn't a new discovery as such, but a clarification that the two types of cell work together to send the pain messages to the spinal cord and thus up to the brain.

The first thing of course to remember is that mice are not small furry humans with tails. There has been no study like this in humans, so they can't say for sure that humans are the same as the mice in this area.

Secondly, they haven't figured out how it works yet, and they will need to do that before they can find any new treatments.

So while it is very interesting, and thank you for drawing it to my attention, we can't really get our hopes up just yet.

Thank you but it was really for information.

Like a lot of medicines....won't help us but maybe somewhere down the line?

Just wish they didn't have to use mice

I think it is too soon to say if this will help down the line. for example, there are two topical preparations that work, capsaicin and NSAID gel, and this combination of Schwann cells and the naked nerve endings might be what is making those preparations work. It is all adding to the knowledge, standing on the shoulders of giants and all that!

Just think how far we have come in 30 or 40 years!!

Hi Bananas5. Very interesting from the pain from the brain aspect ! but no mention of the worn ligaments which curse the pinching of the spinal cord due to ware and tear over many years, a re-build supplement is needed as a kind of repair kit to the ligament to remove the pinching of the spinal cord. So much emphasis on the brain pain pathway

none to new life to damage spine, which means years and years of suffering. Hermes.

Hi

Was excited to see this but cautious in that any new drug maybe years away. It certainly aso makes sense of the way I experience pain with Short Fibre neuropathy., it's like being in one of those bags that oranges comes.

Feels like 'a net' rather than pin points. I've described this to Drs but they seem fixated on points.

Much like it's being discovered that the body has many more hormones than thought 10years ago, maybe it's the begin g of discovering many more cells have some 'nerve/pain' capacity/role not just the ones currently identified as 'pain receptors

May open up a new avenue, rather than just saying it's all in our heads and we should be' mindful'?

Best wishes
