I have swollen ankles and legs making it very painful to walk, also severe lower back pain which makes it nearly impossible to get up from chair or get in or out of car.

Have been diagnosed with CKD , AF, A Flutter and heart failure, this has all happened in less than a year,

before which i always thought I was fit and healthy, has this happened to anyone else On this site?

Have you looked into your medicines I also had this happen to me. Come to find out one of my medicines was doing this. I am so sorry but I can not remember the name of the medicine. I was checked to see if I had varicose vein‘s maybe you should have that test the way they do it is like an ultra sound wand.

But you should ask your doctor. I hope you find out what is going on.

Good luck!

Thank you, have been To Dr again and he stopped one of my heart tablets and doubled one if the others, two weeks later there is a definite improvement in oedema, both feet and legs are so much better I can’t believe one tablet could cause this, on looking at side effects one was could cause oedema!, hoping to feel much better in future!

Sorry to hear this. What tests have you had? Did you get copies of your medical records? You can apply to the hospital by letter or email (if in UK they are free of charge now - since new rules 25/5/2018).

Do you have Oedema or Lympthoedema? Do you have Compression Garments for your legs? Have a look at the LSN forum on here (Lympthoedema Support Network ). Google search Lympthoedema Clinic in your area and phone to ask how you can get an appointment to see the Lympthoedema Nurse.

Have you ever had blood tests to check your Thyroid Gland function? Ever had any Antibodies blood tests in particular Thyroid (TPO and TgAb )? Have a look at Thyroid forum on here. Also look up "Underactive Thyroid symptoms " on the Thyroid UK website. Did you have any infection before you became ill with all these conditions?

Are you taking strong pain relief meds? For example - codeine can stop bowel movements/cause dry stools / constipation. This can put pressure on spine and also circulation making pain & mobility worse. Especially if any weakness in Pelvic Floor and/ or abdo muscles. Drink lots of water. If necessary take Lactulose medicine.

Just a few points for you to consider.

I'm not medically qualified but understand that both mild Heart Heart Failure and CKD can cause Oedema? But worth eliminating Lympthoedema?

Have you joined the Kidney & Heart forums on here?

Have you had any nerve tests done on your legs? Before my lumbar fusion I had alot of low back pain and swollen legs and ankle and feet issues. My orthopedic ordered nerve testing on my legs and it was determined it was from my lower back the nerves were compressed causing issues in my legs and feet. I still have swelling even after the surgery but not as severe as before. Now the swelling and pain is from the psoriatic arthritis.

I have very similar back/leg problems to those you have described, plus a few more. Mine are caused by spinal nerve damage, arthritis and Lymphoedema, and began many years ago with a 'slipped disc'. You need to see your doctor... Good luck. 🤞
