Ribcage /chest pain for 2 months

I had a severe kidney infection with sepsis in February 2019. I was in emergency where I was treated with intravenous antibiotics and a high dose of antibiotics for a week afterwards. Since then I have had chest pain and pain that started under my right rib cage every day. The pain gets worse as the day progresses and if I am stressed it feels like my whole ribcage is in pain. I've had a chest CT, stomach CT, hida scan, MRI, endoscopy and they have discovered there is a narrowing of my bile ducts and my gallbladder isn't filtering properly. I also have granulomas on my lungs and my lung specialist believes we need to monitor this and I'll have another MRI in a few months. Throughout this I've broken up with my partner and had to move house and this has been causing me extreme stress.

I'm now on medication for IBS and reducing stomach acid. It helps but the pain is still here every day but is slightly reduced. I still don't have a definate answer on what causes the pain and I'm seeking advice.

See my post on stress breakdown point.

There are many possible causes for the pain. Some may be referred pain because of the various conditions you have. Others may be due to muscle behaviour and problems with muscle control.

If you have muscle control problems or an over contracted muscle no amount of painkiller will deal with this. You need help that involves physical manipulation. A sports therapist can advise you on handling over tight muscles. An Alexander technique teacher can help develop better muscle control. A Mctimony chiropractor can help reduce the number of over contracted muscles.

Loss of sleep will reduce the ability to finely tune muscles. Sleep is important for removing waste products from the brain. The removal of waste products from the brain does not take place when awake. So you need to find ways to catch up on the lost sleep caused by pain. A kitchen timer is very useful as a means to help with the timing of power naps.

Thanks John I’ve been considering seeing a friend who is a chiro. So I’ll get onto that and make sure I get enough sleep

Firstly, this is probably due to muscle pain after your op that can take weeks to subside. Secondly, perhaps you are feeling over anxious about things, believe me when I say that anxiety and stress can make quite a mild pain feel 10 times worse! Try to relax and take your mind away from the pain, hopefully you will feel better very soon.

Thank you for your advice! I have been feeling very stressed and anxious so that does make sense. I saw a chiropractor today and she is adamant my body is in a high state of stress. She has given me some exercises and relaxation techniques to do. Very similar advice to you. Thanks again.
