Constant thigh pain

I have been suffering with pain in my left thigh for four years now. I have been to three different doctors and still have no answers. When I first noticed the pain I also had cramps in my lower abdominal and so they sent me for STI and pregnancy tests all came back negative as the years have gone the pain has gotten worse in my thigh. I have had an MRI scan on my spine and ultrasounds and a laparoscopy of my abdomen and nothing has come up one doctor asked if it was in my head and made out I was making it up another said they may never find a reason and I’ll just have to live with it and the other told me to lose weight. Yes I have gained weight over the years but when the pains first started I had no weight issues so don’t know how that could cause the pain although I am on a weight loss journey now.

The pain I feel in the back of my thigh is like as if I am sitting on something hard or that my muscle is tensed and then there is a dull ache at the front.

I am really concerned that no doctor has actually looked into my thigh but feel stupid going back again again as I said it’s been four years.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Hello pancakes2 I haven't been on here for a while although I do look to see what's going on occasionally. Have you tried a sports therapist? If it is muscular they may be able to release it. I think it's so patronising when they say it's in your head. Who the hell wants to be in pain 24/7. Try some alternative therapies and if they don't work keep going back and don't be fobed off. I have front of thigh pain which is limiting my walking. Consultant said there is nothing more they can do. I'm not giving up. Good luck x

Thank you, it’s horrible being told your just going to have to live with the pain. I feel like such an idiot every time I go back.

It may be nerve damage or a twisted tendon or muscle group.

You could try swimming that used to tone my muscles.

Sometimes it may be an idea to see a Chiropractor they are generally Private although they can look and feel if something is out of alignment. The area of the thigh has a great deal of complexity with nerves and arteries.

Put your mind at rest it can be expensive to see above although well worth it. It proved to be a good investment as I had problems with my spine and sciatic nerve and like you I got a diagnosis and that helped me. I have heard about above, or similar

I would look in NHS CHOICES under A to Z health conditions, you may also find an explanation there.

Have your SI Joint checked physical therapist can test you for it

Hi Pancake, Ive been having dry needle trigerpoint injections in my neck. They insert a dry needle and tap on the nerve which allows the calcium to get into the tight knot and releases that pain. They said they can also do this for legs, back etc. It has taken away some severe pain in the muscles for me. My physical therapist does this. You might want to look into some injections if nothing else is helping. Medicare covers this too. Best of luck to you. Judy

I think it might be worth you going to see a sports doctor. I spent over two years in agony. Couldn't even sit or drive. I went (privately) to a sports doctor and he diagnosed a hamstring avulsion. It's a tear at the top of your hamstring where it attached to the sit bone. Unless you know what to look for its hard to diagnose. A year later after treatment and I haven't looked back.

Thank you for your responses, I’ll go back to the doctors again and see if they have anymore options then will look into specialists. It’s really starting to effect my work having to sit at my desk all day.
