Hi Everyone I have been given a perching stool to enable me to use the cooker, wash up and put laundry in the washing machine and dryer. The problem is that it is so heavy and with my back problems I'm not able to move it to where I want it to be each time. Has anyone else had this problem, if so how did you get over this.

Did the OT supply it for you? If not ask her about one.
There used to be ones with adjustable legs for whatever height you needed...they were lightweight plastic. Not tooo light as they could topple over.
You can buy them from disability shops or even on a well known mail order firm!!

This was supplied by OT, it would be marvellous if I could actually use it. They adjusted the height but have not addressed the problem of moving it about. I'm fed up with ringing them about it

Obviously this is all they say is available but they have catalogues where they can order what you need. Don't settle for 'one size fits all'/
Remember...if they have identified a need then they must address it.

Lara can you not get someone to adjust the height for you. I have problems with the spring loaded buttons my self. I also was supplied with a stool that fits in the bath or acts as a step.

I was given a perching stool for the same reason. My husband does all the cooking, pot washing etc. Perching chair is used as a dining chair for me now,
I have two perching stools in my bathroom, one in the shower, the other next to the washbasin. I got one of these from OT and we purchased the other private from a Mobility supplier, you get the VAT back or do not pay it. I have also a walking frame with a seat and if required I use that at an adjustable height.
Attached to my bath is a seat that assists me getting on a riser lower seat to aid bathing.
I have a walking stick that contains two, two legged frames with a seat in the centre that seems to work in the kitchen if needed. Getting around is a real problem and getting aids are expensive. Most of my hand rails with given and installed by OT. If you need further assistance ask them, they do help if possible. However sometimes we need to bite that bullet and purchase aids for our own use. One good thing we get the VAT back

I enjoyed reading your post and found your walking stick that can be converted into a resting seat,very in teresting indeed. Would you mind explaining how it works and where can I buy one.

The one I have has four legs, attached to a seat, when you open it up the seat flattens between the two frames and this then forms a seat with four legs with the back formed out of the handle. Another one is a single walking stick with a seat/handle on the top, you press a button and the seat goes from vertical hand hold to horizontal seat. They come in two different sizes, heights. There is a really good selection of walking sticks and seats on Amazon. You can also purchase the basic walking hunting stick as well

We use a lightweight folding stool from Ikea. My son and I tried a friend's perching chair and not only did we find it not very comfortable and awkward to use, it got in the way too much and was hard to move around. This one is easy to just shove along, and folds up. we have two, one one at the kitchen table that is used in the kitchen for prepping, and the other in the utility room where it is normally folded and hung on the wall.
Hi I'm sorry you're having problems ,- the same problems I had, to be honest. I've had to give up use of it because there's too many moves involved in cooking, baking etc hope you find something that is more useful
Having just tripped over mine again I agree - they appear to be unusually heavy and the lifting is a problem. Like cyberbarn I've bought others and some light camping fold up ones, but they're a bit too low. Mines already at the highest setting. I got quizzical looks when I have explained this heaviness to OTs so I was relieved to see your post and the very helpful things everyone has posted, so thank you. I lean everywhere these days!
