Have you been prescribed both together?

Morphine slows down your GI tract. This may allow your body to absorb more gabapentin.

What might happen:

The amount of gabapentin in your blood may increase and cause more side effects than expected.

Yea it's fine gabapentine is background protection and oramorph will act quick on flare ups. I've been on oramorph for 3 years now and mixed it with pregabalin and gabapentine

Both can cause drowsiness and mild drop in blood pressure but as long as you take it sensibly and increase any doses slowly then you should be fine.

I was on oramorph and gabapentin for a year, then switched to oramorph and pregabalin which was more effective.

I haven't had any problems with either. Its important to live a life without pain as pain reduces mobility and that has far more risk factors.

Hi I am currently on Oramorph and Zomorph, I stopped taking Gabbapentin so they put me on Pregabalin which I have also stopped taking , I did have a genuine reason for stopping even though both helped me immensely I ended up sort of sleepwalking through the day and nights a week would go by and I thought it was only a day! Even though I dislike pain I would rather endure some pain than be like a zombie! My Dr agreed that if it was affecting me the way it was I could come off slowly as I was on very high amounts of Gabbapentin . I have said in previous posts that medication works in different ways with different people,so what works for you may not work for me and vice versa!

I have been taking oramorph and gabapentin for a long time now. These drugs make you sleepy and forgetful. Also I have had problems with short term memory. Since visiting the pain speacialist I’m on dulexetine and pregaba. You have to realise these drugs mess up your system long term. I have to take these drugs to ease the pain after microduseceomy op. I still get pain on buttocks and calf. Recent mri showed nothing abnormal. I hope you get well or at the very least train yourself to manage the pain. It never goes away. Then again everyone responds differently to pain. I’m hopeless!!!

Start low and slow with gabapentin.. it takes a while to kick in too.. are you taking much oramorph? would you be better with a slow release morphine twice a day instead. It gives you more continous pain relief even at night andyou can keep the oramorph for emergencies.

Good luck

In my experience (6+yrs) I’ve never had any problems taking Gabapentin & Oramorph. They’re different types of drug so it’s absolutely safe.

I was on 40 mg slow release morphine ( Zormorph ) with Sevredol 10 mg (instant morphine) for break through pain, I normally took 20 mg as 10 mg did nothing, I had 400 mg Gabapentin three times a day, this went on for ten years with pain seemingly taking over my life. I decided to go "cold turkey" with the morphine and stopped taking it, at the same time I raised Gabapentin to 600 mg three times a day. I have extensive osteoarthritis, Bronchiectasis, Tracheobronchomalacia, OSA, and have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. These drugs on their own or in tandem don't help me very much, I am thinking of stopping the Gabapentin. I really want to try Ketamine but have had no luck so far with anyone willing to prescribe it as it is addictive !!! Like morphine, Gabapentin, codeine isn't ?? I am afraid I have been negative and I don't think that you should be put off trying the combination, I know people who say it helps a lot, good luck to you.

I take Gabapentin and Zomorph pills and then use Oramorph for breakthrough pain. The side effects, along with the pain, have changed my life. I can no longer work, for example. I have cognitive issues (couldn't even do my own job after 3 years in it), couldn't form patterns or methods, I have memory problems, I'm sleepy all the time, I can sleep about 18 hours a day quite easily, can't concentrate. I hate the side effects but i hate the pain more so i keep taking them. Ugh.

Everyone reacts differently, though, as you can see in the responses, and it's a matter of finding the right dose for you to achieve the outcome you want.
