Hello! I am new to this community.. I just want to Express my pain.
Here's some background...
My ankle pain started getting in the way of my normal activities about 5 years ago. I've been to 4 doctors and no one seems to be able to fix me. I have had 4 surgeries, the first two done by one doctor who did the same surgery twice then sent me to a different doctor when it didn't work. This other doctor is world renowned or something. He did the same surgery the other doctor did and of course that didnt work. So this last December I had my fourth surgery. I received a bone graft in this one and had to be off of my foot for about 2 and a half months in a hard cast then another few months in a walking boot. This is my last week having to wear the boot out in public and my ankle is still in immense pain. It could be the fact that there is a dead man's bone now in there and it takes longer to heal, but I cant live like this. The pain is too much. Every step is terrible. They think I have a birth defect that caused my bone and cartilage to chip off and cause like a pot hole in my ankle joint. They think they fix it and then it chips off more. They say my bone is healthy, but it wouldn't chip off if it was healthy. And I continue to get a pinched ligament which has been "fixed" twice now. I just dont know what to do. Each step causes rage in me. I am so angry and sad. I am going to college next year and dont want to deal with this pain. College is a lot of walking. Also, all these surgeries have caused me to gain weight because I can't do much because of the pain. Which adds to my anxiety.
Can anyone relate?? I just feel alone and misunderstood.

this sounds like a hellish ordeal and my heart goes out to you, afraid I cant offer any advice as this is an issue I have not heard of.
however, pain Is something I am familiar with, and I don't think mine is as severe as your own, I certainly know the anger and frustration that can build up as a result. you are not alone, and the people here more than most understand how pain effects you even if it does come from a different source than their own.,
have the doctors not offered you any pain relief or is it simply not effective? would a crutch not allow you to take 100% of the weight off your foot?
sorry if these are stupid and obvious questions - im just that kinda guy.
Really sorry to read this and I do think you need to make sure your GP knows just how much pain you are in, and perhaps see if you can get a referral to a pain clinic. Sending sympathy!!

Thank you. I got cleared this week to no longer have to wear a walking boot. I could use crutches and have in the past but they are honestly so annoying. I have to pick my battles on this and I just really enjoy holding things and not having to worry about being in the way. But thank you for your ideas. They aren't stupid.
Could you ask for a pain injection or try acupuncture. How about physio as it could be that the tisues have nitted together and ultrasound may help. Walking with one crutch can make a massive difference by partial weight bearing. Maybe see a sports therapist to see if they have any ideas. Hope you get it sorted soon as continuing pain is hard to deal with. X
My doctor is really against the injections, trust me I've asked! I feel like I should do physical therapy but my doctor says I dont need it and it hasn't worked in the past. Maybe I'll get a 5th opinion and go to someone else, everyone has seemed to think it's a different problem anyway. Thank you.
Sending sympathy and wonder if you had made sure your GP understands just how much pain you are in and maybe you could ask your GP to refer you to a pain clinic. I winced when I read your post and hope you get some help soon
Doctors are just hopeful it will get better. When they realize the surgeries dont work they just offer different ones. But I will continue to let them know. Thank you.
I can't add much,to what's already been said, except DO see your Doctor(s)/Consultants. Make sure that they are, in absolutely, no doubt at all about your PAIN. Shout it 'From The Rooftops' if it comes to that. I will pray, for you, Annie- I am a Confirmed Christian and attend Church most weeks, unless I really can't for some reason.
